Okay.. I really really don't know who I'd pick to take this one. Can any of the stylistic experts on the board break this one down for me? :good
Ali was just the better HW. I don't see what Evander brings aside from all around efficiency to deter Ali. Still, no single attribute of his would help him win this bout, provided he was facing a younger, prime Ali.
Hollyfield is pretty mobile and a good puncher who doesn't need a lot of time to get set. He's also technically good. But he's outreached and outsped. This leaves Ali with the precise plan that suits him best. Outside boxing rellying upon the jab, sitting down on his punches late when some of the sap goes out of his legs. A stoppage is actually not impossible, but Ali wide UD is the most likely outcome. I'm surprised you're usure actually - hard to think of many ATG's you could put in a ring together and see such a one-sided fight. We're in Foreman-Frazier territory here in my view.
A prime Holyfield had a tough fight with an Old George Foreman. A Past his prime Ali KO'd a prime Foreman. Say all you want about that logic but the truth remains that Evander Holyfield NEVER beat anyone close to Ali's level. He didn't have anything Ali didn't see and overcome. Didn't have the power to KO him and wasn't good enough to outpoint him either. This is Ali at his best we're speaking of.
I think Holyfield had a better beard than any of those guys did....You can;t honetly say Ali hit harder than Bowe. Plus Bowe was a big Heavyweight, a prime Ali was right around 200lbs.
Harder no. quicker and more accurate...yes. But you may be right I'm just trying to think this one through. I don't think a stoppage is out of the question, but most likely this one would go the distance :good
Both in their prime 15 rounds its a tough fight to call logic says Ali But Holyfields style is a hard one he had speed in his prime awsome reflexes good counter punching skills, I just think that Maybe if Holyfield can get some body work in the early rounds he can come on later, I would say the fight is a draw honestly though people will argue Liston, Foreman and Fraizer, that is true, but you really can not compair eras, I mean if Fraizer fought Tyson how would that turn out? Honestly I think its a pick em fight, Holyfield is simply over shadowed by Ali becuase of the impact Ali had on the public during his day as Champion he won the hearts of many by refusing to go to war, he has more of a politcal following as well as a boxing following. I remember Asking Vernon Forrest this question when he was at Wildcard and he said he thought Holyfield was the better champion of the two, but that Ali had more appeal to the public becuase outside of the ring he stood up for what was believed to be right, however Holyfield IMO is the better of the two.
Muhammad Ali in his prime did everything better than Holyfield. Whatever you think Holy did good, Ali did better. To another poster who quoted Forrest...Forrest said Holy was a better champion than Ali because they are from the same state lol...
Seriously great fight and matchup. But ultimately a fight that Ali wins by some distance, really dont think he stops the Commander.
