I'm sure Evander was thinking it's better to quit with a NC, grab the money and keep your date with Nielson for more money than to take a bunch of punishment, possibly lose, and jeopardize your next fight happening for the exact same amount of money.

If there was any question before about whether Evander is fighting for the sport or for the cash (and there shouldn't have been), you have your answer now.

Yeah, it was a good move for a guy who has another fight scheduled in a couple months. He didnt want to jeopardize a future payday. I cant blame him for that. But, at the same time this was a ppv people arent paying to see the next fight. But, it is Evander, and 48, so I guess he can get a pass this once for not behaving like a warrior.

It could have been worse for Holyfield and I hope now he realises that he needs to stop. Will he though? I'm not as confident as some of the other posters who think that he suddenly saw the light and thought to himself that it's time to go. How many times have we heard himsay that maybe it was a bad day at the office? It may be a case that he just can't get the fights made and is forced down the retirement route. That being said it is hard watching him fight now, especially when you think back to some of his earlier glories.

    I can't argue that.

I mean Evander still fighting is outrageous, but I just think I've reached my limit on hating on Holy for the night is all... It's more sad than anything. I'm honored to still say I got to see him in the ring, to an extent, but it is sad.

Yep, its all about the benjamins. Someone has to pay for that lavish lifestyle and the large family. Sooner or later Holyfield needs to consider downsizing.

I don't know if he'll be fighting Nielsen, or anyone. Again.
He looked more shot tonight than ever, apart from maybe the last one with Botha.
At least guys like James Toney, Larry Donald and Sultan Ibragimov were contenders.

I think even Holyfield might stop and realise his dream is impossible now.

They are all fighting for the cash.

Yeah, how can anyone hate. He shouldn't be there, getting hit punches by a guy like Williams.
It's like Tyson quitting against McBride - it was supposed to be.

I'm not sure he gets a pass though. There was nothing warrior like about this. And, when he started playing the broken record about his cut, some people were booing him in his own backyard. His warrior instincts have been compromised by the almighty need to make more money.

Without a doubt Holyfield gets stopped in the third. He was wise enough to recognize it and keep his delusions alive for another day.

Holyfield looks great on outside, especially at his age. But what is he like on inside? Not just his brain, but organs, like liver and heart? His body is probably burnt, and brain problems figure to show up soon.

Sounds like Willimas got screwed out of a win.

Well, if he's just fighting for the cash, then there IS no dream other than paying his bills and keeping his home. That alone guarantees he's going to keep his date with Nielson, even if he knows he's shot and will never win a title again.

I don't get people's frustrations. Holyfield was shot and has been for years so did people really think to see a FOTY candidate lol? All jokes aside I hope he does realize that he is thinking illogically if he thinks he'll become a legitimate belt holder but I hope he does get the money he needs in life just not as a boxer. He is 48 and the human body can only do so much. It's pretty understandable if he retires after this(He should've retired several years ago) but I'm just hoping he gets the money he needs somehow without being a boxer anymore. Holy has proved himself already as a warrior in his career but him fighting on is hurting his legacy.
