http://www.tmz.com/2012/10/12/evander-holyfield-retiring/ (Video at the link) Evander Holyfield says he's officially done fighting ... FOREVER ... despite reports the 49-year-old boxing great is looking to get back in the ring one last time. After his last fight back in 2011, Holyfield had hinted that he wanted one more go inside the ring before hanging up the gloves ... and considering his troubling financial situation, it seemed like a sure thing. But last night at LAX, Holyfield assured us his boxing days are over ... period. Thus ends the career of one of the greatest boxers of all-time -- he finishes his illustrious career with 44 wins, several championships, and of course ... half an ear.
finally he should of given up after the Byrd loss, but fortunately it finally dawned on him that a career can't last forever
I really hope Evander does retire for good. I started watching him during his Olympic run; told everybody, "This kid will be Heavyweight champ one day." He had a GREAT run, but the last few years were just SAD, as in pathetic.
I never thought he would have as long a career as he did after the first Qawi fight. I actually told myself that day when he fought Qawi that this grueling fight will affect him and he will never be the same again, and he fought another 25 years. So many tough fights. Strong mental toughness and great fighter.
I hear he has a $10million debt after he sold his home, and he is living in an appartment. He is also selling his Gloves, Belts, Robes, Trunks and his Olympic Bronze medal. But hey he has a handfull of Ex-wives and 11 kids, so what do you expect. I hope he never fights again.
GOOD. Flying flip's sake, already. What finally did it, E? One of your great grandchildren had a baby? Oh, he's got an awful lot of competition for that title, Noppy. And it's not a competition I think he wins.
