Holy was majority Champ at this stage and is still competitive today, beating Valuev, so I don't want to hear any of your gay fantasies. What I want to hear about is holy's mentality. The man is as delusional as Audley (at least) but it has worked for him in the 90's though it is working against him now. I have to wonder just how ****ed his mind was after failing to KO Lewis in round 3. Thoughts?
Two warriors had done battle, and now their fight was over, Holyfield was outclassed and outsmarted... but he knew he never stood a chance... after all he was facing a god, Mike Tyson and Muhammed Ali all rolled into one. His body was still glistening with sweat, slowly dripping down his rock hard abs. Suddenly he saw a figure in the locker room doorway, it was none other than his conquerer, the great SNV. "You were impressive tonight" he said "never give up hope, one day you will champion again". Holyfield began to blush, his loins tightening with each glance of SNV's manly chest hair. SNV himself was well aware of this, and seductively began running his towel through his dense, smooth chest forest. "Had a shower yet?" enquired SNV curiously "You look like you need one". END OF PART 1
I actually hate talking about their first fight. Had money on it - knew Lewis won and it came out a Draw. Therefore - everyone drew their money back into their pockets - pending the official results - but they were all ready to pay up - until the announcement. Damn Don King. Holy will never win another title - he can fight as long as the guy walked in the Book of Eli - but it's not going to happen. I do believe he won the fight against the Giant - but that's old news. It should have been good enough for him - but sometimes good isn't good enough.
I think he was very pleased that God had somehow wangled him a draw. But the ego of a man who believes, after all the tragedies on going in the world ,child starvation genocide, earthquakes, tsunami's etc, that Gods priorities lie in helping Vander win a boxing match....well..how self absorbed can the human condition become??
I think even Evander knew there was no prohpecy you could tell by his body language on his way to the ring and during the intros he honestly looked a bit syked out.
Difference being Lewis didn't come into the second fight as focused or prepared as the first as after winnin e first fight with ease he must have thought he already had the second fight won
Lennox was the LINEAR champ, which trumps the worthless alphabet trinkets Holyfield was babysitting @ that time...
Yeah. Holy was on top of his game though. I think we can all agree on that. The way he mangled up Tyson twice and destroyed Moorer was awesome.
Most people will just dismiss there was even a prophecy situation that messed with Holyfield's mind on the night with Lewis...... .....and for all of his faults outside the ring like children out of wedlock, he is a believer in Jesus Christ and a very religious man. Holyfield does'nt shy away from preaching Jesus Christ his savior....... ......so I do believe that a respected member of his church prophesizing he'd knock Lewis out in the 3rd round, mentally played in Holyfield's mind when the 3rd round came about and it did'nt happen. I you have to look to see that it holds merit is look at the face and body language of Holyfield as he was between rounds after the 3rd, the prophecy not having been realized. The mental focus of Holyfield from the first fight to the rematch was like night and day. Holyfield fighting much better and many including myself who believe Holyfield edged Lewis in the rematch, I believe lends merit that the prophecy situation lent a big helping hand in Lewis beating Holyfield in that first fight.
No, he was not "on top of his game" - not even close. Holy was nearly two years removed from the Moorer fight and three years from his first fight with Tyson. His most recent fight was a lackluster decision over journeyman Vaughn Bean, in which he looked quite like the past-his-prime fighter he was. Sure, there were those of us who were hoping that Evander would be able to land that miracle punch of Lewis' fragile whiskers, but realistic analysis had Lewis a big favorite. He was in his prime. Holyfield wasn't just past his, he was clearly past his!
