yeah thats the best thing about fedor. i you watched all his fights, you can get the feeling that he fights without a game plan, he looks how the fight goes and decides. i could only see a game plan against big nog, schilt and crocop. if he thinks that an opponent is able to take him then he is at his best. this will be the case against overeem. i think we will see the sharpest and best fedor

 

no, fedor is obviously past his best. any loss on his part will bring out ridiculous statements like 'he was always overrated' etc etc etc

 

There is something to be said for retiring on top, without losing and having to blame it on age, reflexes, etc.

Wanderlei Silva, Mirko Cro Cop, Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, etc. all negatively impacted their legacies IMO by sticking around too long in a young man's sport.

 

It's funny that people are so afraid that Fedor's legacy will be insulted that they insult him right now in the present. "You guys have no respect for Fedor at all, even though he is clearly the pound for pound single best fighter on the entire planet, he is past it and not as good anymore."

Also, of course it means something if he loses. If he loses the title of HW champ goes to whoever beats him. It doesn't affect his legacy, sure, but if you hadn't noticed Sugar Ray Robinson isn't the best welterweight in the world right now. Torches get passed and I am more interested in finding out who the best RIGHT NOW is than I am in arguing billions of hypotheticals about who the best ever was. Even though it is clearly Fedor.

yeah we dont need any hero worship towardz fedor to me the only thing i would really worship him for is if he waz a decent person and he seemz to be but who the **** knowz. as far as his fighting greatness the guy has been outstanding.

as far as if he lost in his next fightz yes it would mean something for sure. i dont personally feel that it would change much about his legacy because what he has already done to this exact point is his legacy as far as im concerned. every fighter can be figured out at some point in time and fedor is no different. im sure if he would have fought once every two monthz against the best of the best for the last 5 yearz someone would have beaten him anywayz simply from having so many fightz to whereby the latest big fish could study him and train specifically for him. no i dont think he is a robot or invincible by any meanz. yes itz true i have NO IDEA how he survived randleman slaming him on his neck and back and instead of being crippled used it to work position on kevin to submit him. but yes im sure if someone kept slamming him like that he would break at some point lol

as far as if he is PAST his PRIME itz very hard to know for sure

in his pride dayz he fought with alot more ENERGY and PUSHED the PACE of the FIGHT so much more witch waz ONE of the many reasonz why so many of hiz oppenentz couldnt deal with him and lost.

in the last five yearz or so there is no doubt he seemz to have become much calmer in the ring. yes he waz alwayz a calm fella no doubt itz hiz trademark but im talking about the PACE that he used to fight at compared to the pace he seemz to fight at now

so this doesnt mean that hez past his prime and could simply mean that he has matured as a fighter and only spendz the energy when he feelz he has to

however

im 44 and used to box and wrestle etc and i know that one of the reasonz i fought at a slower pace when i got older waznt just because i waz wiser but also because the pace i used to fight at when i waz younger waz simply way too hard to keep up when i got older, lol

anywayz should be interesting to see what happenz regardless of what happenz

 

I don't see anything that would give somebody the conclusion that Fedor is "past it". Using his last couple fights where he LAID OUT his competition both in beautiful KO's is some of the most ridiculous bull**** I have heard since my time as a fan of the sport.

Believe it or not guys Fedor IS MORTAL! If he loses it will simply be down to the fact that his opponent was better that night. Saying "HE WOULDN'T HAVE BEATEN FEDOR IF HE WAS STILL IN HIS PRIME!" is very childish. You will never hear Fedor make this claim so time to grow up and stop preparing for it.

I hope this thread isn't the first step towards becoming like the General Forum. :-(

The point is it will effect his legacy because a lot of UFC fans wait for it to happen. People said Sylvia was gona give him problems, then AA. After that they suddenly became overrated and always been shite.

Yea, I think they were, but when Couture beat Sylvia in a war he wasn't always overrated, Couture was just this amazing old man.

Fedor is the type of guy everyone will always doubt but he keeps proving everyone wrong. People WANT to see him fail. Once he does, people will have ALL the joy of the "I always said"s and "I told you so"s.

 

People always love seeing the people at the top fail. That's true. Just as people always love a comeback story too.

On another note... I definitely wouldn't call Couture vs Sylvia a war. Couture dominated him every single round in easy fashion.

 

I really don't think anybody will be so stupid as to say "oh he was overrated" if Fedor loses, at least nobody with a brain.
