Yeah, unless he fights Ward or someone comparable from another weight class a couple fights after, which I think is fairly likely. He beats Canelo and Ward, along with a few other decent contenders, retires undefeated immediately afterward, he stakes his claim to one of the GOAT as a middleweight.
Yeah, Ronda had the right fighting style (KO everyone, exciting) and a TOOOOOONNN of hype from media. Just to play off your ****ogy, some of the most awarded movies are the least talked about. You ever watch the Oscars? The movies that are that win the awards are sometimes movies I've never heard of. I see the movies that are promoted the most. Star Wars was hella-talked about. As was Jurassic World, Creed, etc. Revenant is one of those right now. The media hypes up this movies and they're promoted. I make my decisions on seeing movies not by searching everywhere for a great movie but by what's popular. Because, in most eyes, whatever is popular and getting a lot of hype is probably going to be good. Yeah, consistency is true. If you consistency knock out opponents then you'll remain at top. Like Ronda, she continuously dominated. She hurt her brand a lot though by losing. It kinda of killed her aura and "unbeatable" storyline. No causal will visit boxrec haha. The only places casuals will hear about boxers is ESPN, Fox Sports, Twitter, etc. That's why it's so important to get these big general sport outlets behind an athlete. Once they are, then you're pretty much set as long as you keep living up to the standard they hold you to.
Here's the thing though. Why does it matter if a fighter becomes a PPV star? The only possible benefit I could see is that you will get less ducking GGG because he will bring in cash. Other than that what does it matter and why should we care? Seriously, because we as fans aren't seeing any of that money.
Again I think the Ronda thing was more due to there sport looking for something for a while, and she had the right persona to market it. Boxing is different using that same anology Oscar winners are typically considered good movies, a movie isn't good because of one actor it's going to be good because of a combination of a good cast, production, story, etc.. It's like Brad Pitt has some good movies and some bad ones but your not going to just watch a bad one because of one person. Also you'd be surprised how many casuals are on sites like that and this one as well all you have to do is google a fighters name and more often then not Boxrec is the first thing that pops up. I mean think about it how did you find this site, information is everywhere. A KO really isn't much in boxing a high level win whether it be by stoppage or decision is better than a KO win of a journeymen. A casual fan may not know who say Postol or Matthysse is but Crawford fighting either would gain way more casual interest than say Crawford vs Kabib or Soto because a good fight hypes its self which is why it sells and why PPV stars are; they supply a constant demand of the most anticipated fights. It's honestly not about if you feel GGG wins or loses its about putting it on the line vs guys the masses consider top fighters only that will make him a PPV star.
I think I want Canelo to lose in his next fight. I don't want us to have another PPV star. All that means for us boxing fans is more exploitation, and the Mayweather framework of making people wait for a mega-fight, although Canelo according to us all would lose to Golovkin.
more excuses from the triple quack fanboys as to why he shouldnt bow to canelo......some things never change
Yes he could and will be. Beating Alvarez will give him the massive exposure he seeks. It either takes building up his own name by taking serious risks or it takes beating an already established name to make it up there.
it wasnt but 6 months ago triple quack superfans were saying what a ppv star he was gonna be and how he might take over for floyd....lol...my how the times have changed
Hhmmm... from what I've read quoting the LA Times as reported by CBS Sports It's time to drop the "Catch-Weight" nonsense... according to GBP executive Eric Gomez " Weight will NO LONGER be a HANG UP in making the superfight happen" ! So, per Eric Gomez, as of now... either the mandatory fight goes on in Sept. or it seems Canelo gives up the belt. OF course O$CAR wants no part of GGG near term... so there is no guarantee the fight will happen in 2016.
