Judges cannot score even rounds correct??? Unless there is a KD or a foul. So why do commentators, pundits and fans score even round????
Course they can. If theres no clear victor then the round is scored even. Johnny Nelson won one of his fights 120-119 on a judges card. 11 rounds even- and one to 'the entertainer'.
I think that there should be more even rounds given, and more 10-8 rounds, even when there are no KD's. If you are just edging a round and suffer a flash KD in the last 10 seconds, you will lose 10-8, yet if you pretty much beat the **** out of your opponent yet don't KO him, it will be 10-9 unless he doesn't throw a punch. For instance, Hatton vs Collazo. First round Ricky KD's Collazo and dominates the round, 10-8 fair enough. Fast forward to the last round, all Hatton does is charge forward, doesn't land (or throw for that matter) anything meaningful and ships a **** load in return, yet that one would be 10-9!
Knock down is what people pay to see so they should be pushed. I really though you could not score even rounds as a judge.
Think I've spoke about this on a seperate thread with you... I'm all for more liberal approach to even rounds. But think liberal use of 10-8 rounds is too easy to abuse!
I think so! There is no right and wrong way to score a fight, and as Rob says, if you are KD'd you should suffer. Trouble is, there is a difference between say Naz vs Kelley (1st Naz KD) and JC vs BHop which could hardly be considered flash. But I suppose a KD is a KD! The last thing you would want though is fights like 120-96! If Alfonso Gomez had gone the distance with Cotto it would have been worse, I had him 13 points down on the cards at the time of his withdrawal :rofl
Easy rounds should be used. All too often boxers don't define the round. They should lose out on winning that round. Sometimes a technical bout where they are very defensive and only throw 30 punches is easy to view as an even round. Often you'll watch a round and can't go either way. Instead of just picking a fighter, call it even and don't create a controversial card. Close rounds often **** up scoring cos they are scored one way or the other.
I agree. One that springs to mind is Hatton vs Collazo. I scored it 114-112 whilst a mate of mine also had 114-112 yet we only agreed on 4 out of 12 rounds - 1, 8, 11 & 12.
Even rounds should be encouraged IMO. Too many controversional points decisions over the years have been down to the fact that even rounds aren't encouraged.
I remember when Sky used to cover big fights from America, and Darke would always say that "the judges over here never score a round even". Its not a rule, just a generalisation. Maybe thats why you get so many ****ed-up decisions over there, with one judge goin 5 points one way, the second five points the other, and the 3rd has it even; this is down to the judges getting split on tight rounds, marking it as a 10-9 either way rather than calling it 10-10...plus the fact that a lot of judges are shite. If you find it hard to figure out who won a round, then there should be no problem with scoring it 10-10.
exactly. sometimes you end up with very close fights ending in wide UD margins which don't reflect how competitive the fight was.
i think i have only ever scored 5 or 6 10-10 rounds as said above there is always a winner in a round
Really? That's crazy. Judges can score rounds however they like as long as they give the winner 10 can't they? I used to score even rounds but I found that I abused it. Sometimes when "my man" (as FW would say) was leading but slowing down I'd find reasons to give him a share of the round. I've noticed the British commentators will score lots of even rounds while Lederman from HBO always seems to find a winner.
