I have been following boxing from all eras all my life and enjoy scoring fights too. I really believe that even rounds should be put into place more. Take Joe bloggs v Joe Smith. Every single round is dead even and you can't split it surely that should be a draw. I'm not saying any fight ever ends up 120 120 because if you can even slightly pick a winner from that round then they should get it 10 9. My point is I used a few even rounds in that fight with Canelo last night that maybe some of the robbery shouters gave to golovkin and that can swing a fight. I saw no more than 3 rounds that you could say we're a definite golovkin round. I gave him some that were close. I had the fight a draw in the end and a point either side for either guy wouldn't have been a bad score in my opinion

I've been following boxing along time too, and respectfully disagree. To me, even rounds just mean you didn't do your job as a judge. It's a subjective assessment based on pre-defined criteria. There is no way the fighters fought a perfectly even round against each other, now matter what. The judge's role is to discern the difference, big or small, and score the round. It's not his job to throw his hands up and say "I don't know, too close too call. Even round."

Even rounds have a place in amateur boxing because it's based on recorded scored punches and obviously, each guy could end up with a numerically identical number.

In the pros, I just think it's a cop out or incompetence.

I totally agree with this. If one round is totally dominated by other fighter it is scored 10-9 if there is no knockdowns. It is silly that practically even round is also scored in same way 10-9 just because nobody wants to score it a draw.

Totally agree. There are occasions when separating the fighters is almost arbitrary. You've got "close round", you've got "arguable either way" but there's an even finer category where it's almost a coin toss. Those should be drawn.

There are some instances where it seems entirely arbitrary to determine a winner of a round, even under pre-defined criteria. In those cases, a round scored as a draw seems appropriate.

Plus, the idea that you must score a winner of each and every round is relatively recent; up until the 90's it was common practice to score even rounds, and by and large the number of poor decisions wasn't any larger in those days.
