I think RJJ is just being realistic. B-Hop is 43, and while he is in good shape you can not cheat time forever. His workrate is no longer as it used to be (that is why he lost to JT twice), and he looked great against Tarver mostly by contrast. Also, I don't buy the story his style works against southpaws. Yes, it worked in the past - and even now it works against some of them, especially small ones (Winky) or lazy ones (Tarver) ;-) . Prime for prime it could be different story, but now I agree with RJJ.
**** Roy Jones. He's nothing but a hater. He's just jealous because Nard was able to rise up to the no.1 p4p spot, and continually beat good oposition past the age of 35. Meanwhile, Roy was knocked clean the **** out twice; completely embarresed once he reached that age. Now he's stuck fighting bums in **** towns; barely able to draw a few thousand fans to the arena. He beats a washed up Tito at 170 and he thinks he's the **** again. **** him. If Nard is able to beat Calzaghe, he should tell Roy to go **** himself.
Come on Reg you know that ain't truth !! How many times did Jones try to get Hops in the ring ??Lets not forget who has been ducking whom for yrs !! Hopkins has been on Jones coattails for yrs look who he hired as his strength and conditioning coach for Tarver the same one Rpy use !! Hopkin is a streight up biter ! Remember this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSsbKSjmy_I
Don't sleep on father time, because this fight is 50/50. I want to see if B-Hop will make Cal fight his fight. B-Hop is the king of that.
Yeah I remember that. Hopkins was nice enough to offer Roy a 50/50 fight. Just like the greedy ingrate he is, Roy turned it down. Hopkins was the number 1 p4p fighter at the time, and it wasn't like Roy was a huge draw. Although he was a great fighter, Roy was completely unprofessional. He always did a half ass job promoting fights; showing up late to press conferences or not showing up at all. Why the hell should Hopkins take 40/60 cut against a guy like that?
I don't think so. Jones was the draw and was PfP No. 1 and had beaten Hopkins already, so a 60/40 deal made sense. Hopkins asking for parity was silly.
1. Jones allready beat Hops 2. Jones was the champ 3. Hops needed Jones more than jones needed Hops 4. Jones was considered P4P #1 5. Jones was always the bigger draw Honestly I think reason 3 is the biggest reason why Hops should have taken the 60/40 split
I'll believe it when I see it. Jones fighting somebody who is an actual threat at this point of his career? Its funny how Cal needs to beat up some washed up has been in Hopkins or Roy. What does it prove? He could walk off into the sunset and call it a day. neither of these American clowns will fight him on his terms. He's the champ, that's the way it should be
Actually, he's NOT the champ in the case against Hopkins. And Hopkins has no reason to fight him on "his" terms. The fight is at LHW, and that's Hopkins championship. They need to come to "mutual" ground. You can't fault either for not signing a one sided deal. What's with your sudden "America" this and that BS. Keep that **** out of it. We have heard enough of that from both sides.
Bull****. Jones was the draw, Jones would have been putting HIS titles on the line, he had already beaten Hopkins. The promotion **** is irrelevant, because the money is about what happens in the ring. 60/40 was certainly fair at the time. Jones later on, when he had fallen from grace and wanted to fight Hopkins should have taken whatever Hopkins offered. Most of the time you speak the truth, but you have a pretty noticable bias when it comes to Hopkins.
Correct. 60/40 in favour of Jones was a fair shake. When negotiations started it was just after Hopkins beat Trinidad. Both fighters were linked up on HBO when Hopkins was being interviewed on HBO by Larry Merchant after his fight with Daniels. Jones said " sixty forty I kick your ass, sixty forty I kick your ass". Jones had been a decent draw for years. Hopkins only came into the limelight as a major HBO attraction during the middleweight unification series which drew to a conclusion after he beat Trinidad.
What you guys fail to realize with this fight. Is that its going to get ugly. BOTH fighters lead with there heads, both do the same exact tactic if you watch Calzaghe he hooks with the right arm and hammers away with the left. B-hop hooks with his left arm and hammers with his right or throws a hard straight right out of a clinch or an uppercut. This fight will be grueling and Calzaghe cannot out box hopkins b/c Hopkins is a very hard target and can MOVE and is slick. Calzaghe will wail away and be busy in close but Hopkins is going to land the more accurate hard shots. There will be head buds and I have the fight getting real crazy.
He is from Philly, have you ever tried arguing with a philly sports fan of any kind. There is no plausable way they can see error in there guys.
