Just read an article about this on another website. Apparently the WBF, which recognizes Holyfield as 'the heavyweight champion of the world', is choosing not to recognize his fight with Brian Nielsen as a 'legitimate title defense'. So how fukkin sad is that? To have sunk so low that even the WBF looks down on your fights?
Uh, I think it has more to do with whether or not Nielsen is ranked by the WBF. Nielsen hasn't fought in nine years and therefore isn't going to be in any organization's rankings (and therefore not recognizable as a defense). It isn't like they're snubbing him directly. If Nielsen fought once before Holyfield - even with a tomato can, he could probably get himself ranked by the WBF with ease. As it is, he's coming directly off an enormous layoff and isn't ranked/eligible to contend. So...poorly made point, sorry.
lol this is so funny....when i heard that williams-holyfield was for the WBF....more like WTF....didnt know WBF belt existed. btw guys i am starting my own belt...its WEF , worlds elite federation....i need champs for each weight...ill try getting you a unification bout after the WEF tilte elimanator and title fights. andre berto at welterweight for example will be easy fight for me to get you onto HBO, no problem at all.
I really like Evander and what he's accomplished over his HOF career but why dont somebody really give him a lecture and tell him to retire.atsch I really would hate to see him ****ed up in the head because he didnt know when to call it quits.
Yeah i know it's because of Nielsen's inactivity, they've even stated that as the official reason. But the thing is, normally, if these organisations value their champion and the credibility that he gives to their organisation, they find a way to make it ok and label it a voluntary defense or some other bull****. But in this case, even the WBF wouldn't go there, so i think my point stands.
It really has nothing to do with who it is, though - other than the fact that he hasn't fought in so long. "Normally" the person challenging has to have done something (even if it's something stupid) to have been ranked by the organization in question. If they could shuffle the deck to rank Williams, they could do so for Nielsen...except that he's not been in a ring in nine years.
Fighting a tomato can and winning this fight could turn out to be really different things, especially at this stage of Nielsen's career. Yes, I know technically he would be ranked somewhere even after a loss... but you see the point.
