When Buffer announced it, even Ward looked shocked lol, he knew he hadn't done anywhere near enough to win the bout, he thought he lost it for sure. Max Kellerman even asked him about it in the interview, saying he looked surprised and Ward tried to deny it, but it's all on camera. Also looking at both Ward and Kovalev's face's after the bout, Ward's was marked up a lot and Kovalev didn't even have a scratch on it lol. You can tell from that who won the fight without even watching it. #Robbery
That was from the dirty headbutting from Ward which he did several times and got away with if you didn't see it son. His punches didn't trouble Kovalev at all.
Ward's face was marked from early on. I think it was clear that Kovalev won. I really like both fighters but I think this is the decision that I felt Sergey Kovalev could not win but came to win. He had to win by KO but came and got a decision in the style of 8 - 4 and a knockdown. I find this hard to even be debatable. Even the Pacquaio - Marquez fights are more debatable than this. This is a disappointment. But I'm not disappointed in Ward. He's a great fighter. If anyone was to rob Kovalev I'd hope it be Ward. Ward is a class act and a great technician. I just think he got disarmed yesterday. Clear as day.
His punchers clearly did because Kovalev slowed don in the 2nd half of the fighter which she ndicates Ward's punches including his body shots were having an effect!
this is another example of how championship belts are taken without much effort from the challenger. the belt's value is diminished when it is not considered in scoring. when the challenger did not show domination or justified aggression to capture the belt and make solid points against the champion then the result should be a draw at the max.
Those body shots Ward landed had Kova shitting bricks. The man's stamina was completely sapped, he possibly gets stopped in a rematch if Wards lands those body shots from the get go. The blueprint is there. 8)
