Eventually Dawson may need to drop to 168 or 170 and smoke Bute

Dawson and Bute remain with limited options during the Super 6. Bute is hoping for Pavlik or maybe Williams. Dawson has a good fight with Pascal lining up if he beats Diaconu again. And he's hoping for the RJJ-Hopkins winner if that fight comes off.

But other than that they aren't left with much. And at this point they still aren't big names but they do now both have HBO on their side and that is big. Bute at least has the gate draw.

Don't see Bute trying 175 in the near future. Dawson's said he can make 168, but that is putting him at a real disadvantage. But i think he'd do it.
And as long as he can comfortably make weight, I think he beats the hell out of Bute.

One fight at a time. Dawson is WBC mandatory and is guaranteed a shot against the winner of Diaconu/Pascal II. Why should he skip that opportunity to fight Bute?

he shouldn't. I didn't try to imply that. I said eventually. I definitely assume Dawson-Pascal will come off next. I'm thinking later in 2010.
Dawson going to Canada to fight Pascal in all probability.

    - Good point - I think he should try to become a clear number 1 at 175lb before anything.

    - I have a funny feeling dropping to 168 will weaken him too much.

    - He looks too big.

I would pick Dawson to beat Bute.

That being said Dawon coming in at 191 lbs puts to sleep the notion of him making 168.

I hope this fight happens before the end of the Six. I don't think now is the best time for it, but sometime within the next 12-18 months should be good.

dont think he can make 168. As stated above he weighed in at 19 in his last fight. Cutting that much weight is going to mess with ur stamina.

No, if the fight ever happens it should be at 175. Bute is a HUGE suppermiddle(bigger than anyone in the super 6), he has more of the frame of a lightheavy anyway.

that's the way it should happen. And considering Dawson isn't exactly a KO artist, there is no excuse for it not to happen at that weight. I just get an impression that Bute is not looking to move for a good while. So Chad may have to force the fight.

I don't think Dawson should go for the Super six, there are some good fighters in the 175lb division and the division is on the rise.

He can dominate that division ... and he can lure those smaller guys ... maybe the winner of the super six, maybe Bute, maybe Pavlik, and maybe Williams ... up to the light heavyweight ranks or maybe we can see Joe Calzaghe come out of retirement.

Dawson holds the key ... hell maybe he can get a fight with the Hopkins/Jones fight ...

There's Cloud, Pascal, Diaconu, Erdei, Campillo, Shumenov, Yusef Mack, Chris Henry ... there are plenty of fighters who can build themselves up in enough time to challege Dawson.

Dawson doesn't need to chase anyone as of this moment ... he's the man at 175.

That highlighted bit is the key for me: he's not "the man" at 175 by any measure. Not yet. But, there's every opportunity for him to become that by clearing out some more of the up and coming fighters there. There's two routes to go from here: one is to weight jump for the possibility of more immediate paydays, the other is to stay put and clear out some other titlists/contenders to earn himself the title of being "the man" at 175. For the next couple of years, I'd like to see him accomplish the latter because it seems like alot of people are giving him credit for a reign that hasn't even started yet.

how's he not the man at 175?

    beat Adamek, Tarver x 2, Johnson x 2.

How the **** is he not the man at the weight?

Outside of BHOP who is obviously not trying to make a fight

Dawson would smoke Cloud who got his face busted up against Clinton Woods and was out of breath around round 8.
