Eventually Dawson may need to drop to 168 or 170 and smoke Bute

There's a difference between being champ and no 1 contender.

Just because Bhop and Calzaghe didn't fight him doesn't mean he automatically gets that status awarded to him as some sort of consolation prize. I can see the argument if you were to tell me you ranked him as the best head to head fighter, but on what metric has he accomplished enough to be considered "the man" moreso than the frontrunner for a vacant position? Let's double check here. Is he the....

    1. Ring Champ? No.
    2. Lineal Champ? No.
    3. Highest ranked P4P fighter in his class? No.
    4. Even holding a belt right now? No.

And that, my friend, is what I mean when I say the dude's getting credit for a reign that hasn't even started yet. Could he do it? Of course he could. I'm not discounting that. If you feel he's the uncrowned champion, that's cool- but until he either beats Hopkins or takes out a couple more top 175ers, he's just that- uncrowned.

Dawson isnt ring champ because Goldenboy enterprises owns ring magazine and they allowd Bernard Hopkins to basically hoard the ring championship at light heavyweight.

Dawson was the number 2. And its not like he wasnt calling Hopkins out.

Dawson is the best fighter at lightheavy. Hes beat better fighters then anyone currently holding a belt. The only reason he's not holding a belt because he didnt want to take a mandatory against the clown that Pascal dominated.

I'm going to see more proof that Dawson weighed >190 in Johnson II. He's not a huge LHW and appeared fully hydrated at the weighin.

He's also weighed in at a couple pounds under the limit, and physically he doesn't look much different now.

That's well and good- so Dawson's purely a victim of circumstance. That still doesn't make him the man at that division at this point in time. Unless "calling out" is considered a moral victory and titles can be won on moral victories, that doesn't do anything for Dawson. Hopkins will continue to not fight him because Dawson doesn't have any title worth fighting for, and that's what I don't think people are getting.

Dawson's a heck of a fighter- if you rank him as the H2H best at Light heavyweight, that's not unreasonable. That still doesn't replace actually doing it, and Tarver, Johnson, and Adamek didn't have the weight behind them to give Dawson status as "the" champ. You want to argue he's the leading man for that spot? Fine. You want to start arbitrarily giving him credit as already being "the man" because of calling out, politics, whatever, and I'll continue to disagree because he's got to win that in the ring. He's close. But he ain't there yet.

check the resume. What can he do? I bet you thought he lost to Johnson the first time, which he didn't, but anyway he went out and kicked Johnson's ass.

Chad Dawson has no equal from 168-200

He can't make 168. Johnson beat the crap out of him, had him out on his feet in the first fight. Johnson lost the second fight, but Johnson beat him in the first one, no doubt.

That's what I'm trying to say here: I'm checking his resume, and I see no Ring title fight, lineal title fight, or unification fight. I don't care how much fault is or isn't on Dawson, he can't get credit for what he hasn't done. I take that stance with every fighter I follow: even though Abraham wanted the Pavlik fight more, I can't give him the credit as if it happened and he won, because it never happened. It sucks for us (the fans) that we won't get to see Hopkins-Dawson and it sucks for us that we didn't see Abraham-Pavlik, but that's about as far as I can take it because there's no guarantee the man doing the chasing in either case would've won.

I had Dawson winning 7-5 the two times I watched Johnson-Dawson 1. I think some people were eager to see Dawson lose and Johnson carries a fiercely loyal following, so to an extent they saw what they wanted to see in that fight.

Get a grip, Ring or Lineal fights don't just happen. When they do it's a blessing for the fight fan. Dawson beat Tarver and Johnson 2x no matter how you see it and he whooped the reigning CW champ. He never ducked anyone and will take any comers.

So if he is techincally the man at 175 or not, everyone knows he is the man to beat.

Listen, when you leave behind a belt you can`t affirm you didn`t duck anyone ! This is your definition for manhood ? A real lion leaves behind a crown in order to conquer un other ? No man, tries to add a second crown to the first ! No matter the reasons the man avoided it.
