Many MMA fighters list "striking" as their main attribute. Will the number of fighters with this as their main weapon gradually diminish until its is barely non existent in MMA fights? It seems to me that striking will become a redundant asset in an mma fighters arsenal eventually.
at this rate all fighters will utilize LnP, the worse part in this sport is you can lie on your opponent for 5 rounds or hold him on the cage and move just enough to make it look like your in control and win. something needs to be done about this, in the end this is entertainment and what rashad and even people like GSP are guilty off is NOT entertainment. but i cant blame the fighters i blame the system/scoring there just doing what they have to do to win.....the John Ruiz tactic of MMA.
No thats nonsense. For example, what happens when two wrestlers fight and their wrestling skills get canceled out by each other's? The fight becomes a stand up affair. Thus it will always be important for fighter's to be evolving and rounding out their game which includes refining the stand up skills in their arsenal.
Fair point but i would say that it may not completely disappear from the sport but it will definitely become marginalised and fighters with striking as their primary asset will definitely gradually decline and disappear its an ineffective weapon compared to other techniques in MMA
What evidence of this do you see exactly? Almost every fighter at the elite level, save for a certain freak of nature in Brock Lesnar, utilizes striking in just about every fight.
Agreed. The chances are that striking with eventually be made illegal in mma, as will wearing any item of clothing. A new addition will be the requirement for both combatants to be given coats of vaseline & baby oil beforehand. The fans may then stop whining & start enjoying it a little, if only for 2 minutes.
What i am saying his somebody whos main strength in MMA is striking will be ultimately flawed. The reason we agree that boxers can't hack it in MMA is that they can't handle ground game takedowns etc. Why should an MMA fighter who's best attribute is striking be able to hang with the wrestlers. Obviously you need to be able to throw a punch in MMA as there are times when they are times when it requires it but i believe it will become less and less important as the style of MMA evolves and wresting judo etc becomes more and more prevelant and refined.
Because it will be the guys who mix everything together that will come out on top, hence the name mixed martial arts. Guys can have great wrestling and stand up at the same time, the presence of one does not indicate the absence of another. Look at Frankie Edgar who won the 155 title from BJ Penn utilizing great Kickboxing and wrestling.
You must concede however that some styles when mixed together are more effective than others. Striking is effective to a certain extent ie when somebody else will stand up with you but the ability to take the fight to the ground nullifys that effectiveness. I think eventually MMA will be more ground focused as fighters get better at taking the fight to the ground and utilising an MMA style that is not stand up orientated. the success and effectiveness of wrestlers over other more traditional stand up based martial arts surely demonstrates this.
Not really nonsense at all.. Only at times is this true.. Rampage for example, started off as primarily a wrestler, not of the same pedigree of someone like Rashad, but the years of training with people like Dan Henderson, and actually beating Dan on the ground shows that the scoring is ******ed, in the sense that Rampage for the most part negated Rashads takedowns with stuffs and ended up with his back on the cage.. Then, I see Rashad shamelessly start throwing hammer fists to Rampage's ****ing knee.. Dude is seriously homosexual, and I cant wait until he gets his head knocked off for it. If you stuff a takedown, it should count just as much as if the takedown was successful imo. If you lay on a guy and don't do **** for damage, then shouldn't that really not count for anything at all since the person with the good guard is able to defend? What happens if the person in the guard gets off sub attempts from the bottom? If you get close to landing a traingle, that should count for more than laying on top of your opponent, and talking **** ala Koscheck. GSP, at least goes for subs when he is in dominant position, I don't give a **** what you people say.. He had two attempts rather deep in his last fight, so I don't see what the big deal is when you are on top and at least trying to do something.. There is a HUUUGE difference between failing to attempt, and attempts that fail.. Rashad, Koscheck, Sonnen, and Shields are the ones ushering in an era of absolute **** wrestling. Making us further lament the days of Pride. Bring back the yellow cards.. Sure, Rampage talks out of his ass and acts like a child at times. But at least he shows up to fight, rather than just get the W..
Ok so explain why Anderson Silva continues to have success against world class grapplers and wrestlers...
never fear the man who has practiced a thousand kicks once, fear the man who has practiced one kick a thousand time mma fighters with the exception of a chosen few, (like anderson silva) are good at everything and masters of nothing for the most part mma will be going to their ****ed up score cards more often too....cuz now it seems the common strategy to beat someone who strikes is to get them on the floor and control the fight the more skilled these fighters get in each department the more boring these fights have become cuz there is no more swing for the fence mentality and also the more ****** ass scoring u get!
you would think with rashad and rampage two boxers that u would get a good stand up match...but no u got rashad acting like a ***** wanting to wrestle.... and then this 3 rounds and 5 round **** is bs.....how do u determine a winner in 3 rounds..... that **** is stupid and all these damn ppv are stupid too.....****it ufc and dana white r stupid..... i was looking foward to that fight last night and im pissed rashad wrestled like a ***** after all the **** he talked..
