So after my last fight, I have been cutting down my gym time and not doing as much extra workouts. I went into the ring today and sparred 6 straight rounds and still felt AMAZING. Usually after 2 rounds I feel like utter ****, anyone else experience this?

Yup, for me sometimes I think I mentally become fatigued, but also training in this sport is very physically stressful. Sometimes I just need to recharge my battery. I don't think this is uncommon at all.

I notice that a lot actually. It is like a trade off...

Train a lot - lots of mental and physical fatigue, but your body recovers faster so less aches

Train less - seems you put more into it and feel fresher during work outs, but the recovery sucks.

    I like to cycle it.

For me personally training less doesn't work, I need to put the hours in to feel good. I don't feel fatigued after a few rounds either, in fact I'm a late starter I need quite a while to get my rhythm going.

you have probably been over training. Rest is just as important, if not more important when you are training hard.

It's one of the things that bothers me in fights, the third round is always my best. I work on it by warming up very well before a fight, lots of pad work and shadowboxing. In sparring it's not that bad to get a rhythm going in round five but in a fight it is as you can imagine.

im the exact opposite before a fight, i don't like to do too much pad work, just some skipping to get a sweat going, some light shadow boxing and some short sharp pads combinations.
honestly man not meaning to bring up an old thread, the conditioning i was telling you about with the weights i do i perfect for this. It trains the energy systems to go from the start. High intensity training. You need to get use to training with your heart rate at its max bpm. Each circuit we do is usually about 20 odd minutes and you are pushing your threshold from the very start to end of workout, it helps with your sparing

It's the same with me, I start off my first 2 rounds jabbing and picking my shots; then the 3rd round I start throwing fluently

Those "extra workouts" you mention are probably what is causing physical as well as central nervous system fatigue. There is a fine line between training enough to be able to recoup fully and going into depletion. I feel you have just realized a valuable lesson for yourself.

It's more of a mental thing in my experience, I need to be more aggressive and force my style instead of being patient and seeing what he has to offer. I have the energy to do it right away but for some reason I need a wake up punch first.
