Everett Martin???

a lot of fighers r just stay busy fighters for other fighters. cant find an opponent call me up and i am there. its a 9 to 5 job to many fighters

 

I remember that Ol'boy. Perfect type of fighter to give rounds/experience to a prospect. First guy to take wlad the distance.

 

I just commented on him on another guys thread about Wilder.

Everett was the ultimate showing of who was gonna be a contender. If you didn't fight him, you weren't getting a shot.

I'm sure it's a syndicate:-( thing. Kindof like union dues.

Anyways, I was saying that when Witherspoon got his shot with Everett, he was getting outworked, and the colorman or the commentator was saying that Everett was a seasoned vet, and Witherspoon was looking past him. Boy, what a fight to lose.

I remember the Foreman fight. It was on USA Network with Sean O'Grady doing commentary. Bigfoot would pray in the corner between rounds and ****. Even Big George was freaked out by him.

Anyone whose resume includes going the distance with both Wladimir Klitschko and Larry Holmes has my respect.

 

You must be new to the sport. Bigfoot was the premier gatekeeper for many years. You had to beat him before you took on any real contenders. Just a fat cruiser, but occasionally he'd beat a name and keep his stock alive.

 

The funniest thing about Everrett Martin was that Sean O'Grady was fascinated by his nickname of "Bigfoot" because he only had a size 9. O'Grady finally got a chance to ask him why they call him bigfoot, and he replied that he did not know. Really tore Sean up. I think the reason was all the hair on his back.

As for Bigfoot as a fighter, great chin, almost always came to pick up a check,a although he occasionally got a big upset.

That's ****ing hilarious. Tuesday night fights was the only reason I didn't have to watch the Atlanta Braves *every* night during the summer when I was a kid. Long live O'Grady.

 

He was a good boxer with a darn good chin and almost no punching power...He was a great guy to test a young fighter against, a cagey vet that wasn't going to ruin a young guy by brutal ko...

 

Good old Bigfoot.

 

An example of a "great journeyman". He'd always come to fight and he'd give a boxer plenty of work. He took Herbie Hide the distance, which is impressive given the monster power that Hide had at that point. Also, as mentioned, he took Holmes and Wlad the distance.

 

I remember Bigfoot when I was in Bowe's camp years ago. Great sparring partner.................

 

Tough blue collar fighter...Best win against Tim Witherspoon the guy can really fight despite his poor record.
