Great thoughts on Nelson. That fight was the one time I saw Sanchez perhaps a bit bothered by a punch. Nelson caught him with a monster hook in the 11th and it took Sal out of the fight for a few moments, he seemed quite buzzed by it.

Joe Joyce - solid whiskers but no freaking defence. Eventually somethings gotta give, especially against a big puncher - and it did as we saw against Big Bang.

Big John Tate - excellent skills, especially for a big man but a suspect chin that saw him completely short circuit - ala later career Roy Jones Jr. Scary.

Tommy Hearns - not so strong legs that would sometimes betray him even when he was still fully cognisant and not necessarily buzzed.

Ray Leonard - EGO. Didn’t know when to call it a day without having to jump off the cliff and find out the hard way.

Damn, the loss KO loss to Camacho is an extremely hard watch.

Foreman - first career boxing IQ not so hot - it ultimately burnt him.

David Tua - the inability to slip a jab or punch with while being punched /boxed against, making him look inactive for most of the fight while being out worked. Was a constant theme for him.

I’ll try to have a look at that again - having said that, you could see Sal felt some of those shots but he took them so well all the same..to his credit, Gomez gamely tried to comeback after that horrendous 1st round and he too caught Sal with some head twisting wallops. Sal took those also but wisely extricated himself before taking too many consecutive power shots in a row.

If you throw a punch at Joe Joyce it is easier to hit him than it is to miss him.

Joe Frazier - no fear/keep on moving forward attitude. Could have fought more patiently against Foreman and also almost blew it against Bonavena.

So your quote was a paraphrasing of or a twist on a Mickey Duff quote - have I got that right? :D

I think so, he said something like that, or so I heard somebody saying so, somewhere....
I actually googled it and I didn´t find anything.

not fighting the early rounds is something loma does in almost every fight, ortiz, pedraza, campbell, haney, salido, linares and russell all had a lot more success against loma in the first half of the fight when he was losing rounds trying to figure them out and not doing nearly as much.
while the teo fight is the most glaring example of this it is far from the only one
