Every boxer has/had a weakness. Name that boxer and what that weakness how it counted against him?

Boza Edwards, one of my favs had two weaknesses

He loved to brawl even when he had massive height and reach advantages
He left himhelf open for right hands. Especially at mid range he got tagged by the desperate right hands of Bobby Chacon which cost him the rematch although I thought he still won.

I loved watching Boza fight. A boxing fan got his money's worth, and then some, with him.

Spot on about Kostya that's why I pick prime Randall or even closer to prime Roger Mayweather having a shot at beating him. A shopworn Mayweather landed the right hand repeadedly but he didn't have the power he had six years earlier when he was a champ at 140 lbs

True and if he fought the way he should have to maximize his physical advantages he may have not been so memorable

Tate took Coetzee's punches winning the title and didn't flinch, his weakness was the white powder and the hanger ons who milked him and helped ruin his career. In essence , his mentality was his weakness

    Tyson and clinching.

Whenever someone put him in the clinch he just sat on his ass the whole time until the ref broke it up. There were sooooooooo many times he could've taken advantage during the clinch to inflict massive damage and did not. Its even more so the case consideing Tyson is a strong infighter and has the perfect physique to be able to pull that off. During the Tillis fight even one of the commentators said it was outright astonishing that Tyson was not taking advantage of the clinch when he could've really hurt Tillis.

Whats really shocking is that he lost to Holyfield over this, someone whose style he knew was going to involve clinching. Holyfield had a slight edge over him though most of the edge had to do with him putting Tyson in the clinch to wear him down. Tyson apparently caught on in round 5 when he decided to fight out of it and actually pushed Holyfield on the backfoot, yet he seemingly didn't do this tactic again. Why did he not do this for the rest of the fight???? Maybe Holyfield would've still won but damn Tyson could've did so much better.

He clearly had to have been taught how to fight out of the clinch as it'd make no sense whatsoever for someone as highly experienced as him to not know that, thus the only thing to conclude is he allowed himself to be clinched. It really boggles the mind.

Ricky Hatton's balance. He must have squared up to throw a hard punch every time he did so. His technique was really bad for a world class fighter and that's why he always got hit so hard, because his feet were always out of place. That's why he was a one man rocket on a mission to take out the corner post vs. Mayweather.

Paulie Malignaggi's hands falling apart nearly immediately every fight. Luis Ortiz being 75 years old. Juanma Lopez having negative defensive skills. James Toney being fat and not training hard enough.

Amir Khan's ring IQ/defense let him down. He probably could have beaten Prescott, Peterson, and questionably Garcia. He would have had a much different career, but ultimately lost to the people he lost to at the end.

This is a really good point. Ali loved to counter the jab with the right hand, occasionally opponents could pump the jab draw the counter (or at least move his right hand a little) and lay one over the top. Cooper got him the worst. Frazier, too.

Fair play. Tate’s case possibly warrants better, more detailed examination and qualifications.

Weaver was a big puncher and that was a huge punch for the KO. An ATG punch, actually.

Though I do recall Weaver also shook Tate a few times in the later rounds, especially in one particular round, sending Tate back on his heels, John never fully recovering before round’s end.

That instance seemed to cause Tate to fight a lot more cautiously thereafter - still arguably a natural election even for a reasonably chinned fighter - and Tate was beginning to notably tire, and resilience and defence can suffer proportionally.

The way he went out though - as if he had just literally taken a bullet to the head. Shocking and indelible vision.

Losing by KO to Berbick in his next fight didn’t help perceptions but I understand that he might’ve received a worse rating of his chin than he might’ve deserved. And there is his conduct external to the ring as you identified...

He also got levelled by Teofilo Stevenson’s first, seriously launched right hand- but we know the Big Cuban could punch and had a wealth of experience behind him - and Big John wasn’t Robinson Crusoe in so far being the only highly regarded am prospect that Teofilo put paid to - Felix Savon also had a habit of doing same to promising fledglings , eg a 17 yo DAVID TUA whose chin was ultimately highly regarded in the pros

I’ll just say that it appeared that John’s chin certainly wasn’t iron without being glass and perhaps whatever his chin was, it might’ve been worsened by lifestyle habits.
