Not really, Pac already has great wins on his resume, there was never a doubt that JMM was a special kind of fighter. It does help intensify the rivalry if anything.
I wouldn't go that far. I agree in a way, but also at different weights different fighteres have different strengths. Marquez and Pac at 147 will not be the same as 130, and it does not mean at 130 they were necessarily better.
Pac's win over JMM will always be his biggest edge over him. It's wrong giving fighters credit for other fighters hard work.
You know you bring up a good point and I been thinking of making a thread about that. For instance, seeing Marquez and Pac last fight how would it play out at 140? Which fighter would the step up in weight help?
I believe their rivalry has gone "personal". Try browsing JMM's pre and post fight interviews, news clips, the name --- Pac will always in the line.
Well I remember when Hearns and Leonard fought at 147, Hearns was weaker than Ray and Ray outmuscled him a little and was more experience than Hearns. 8 years later, Hearns was the stronger guy and was more experienced after fighting top guys when Ray was doing HBO commentary. In 1981 Hearns could not fight on the inside and was getting hit with inside punches, but in 1989 Hearns was ducking under punches that in 1981 he couldn't. I am sure Ray noticed this. They fought a similar style, but Hearns was just better at the weight and the experience showed. Hearns also developed a better left hook to the body with the bigger guys than he had when he was younger. The weights affects everything. Ray was banging more also and trying more the uppercut. Just different fighters heavier and older. Pac. vs. JMM at 140 will not be the same fight at all as at 130. Obviously the more time which goes by between the fights changes things more. I do think Pacman is more versatile and he will be the one who can do more at the higher weights. JMM probably will always fight the same.
Ya, your right on that note, it's pride that won't let him forget. He must feel as though he is the better fighter and should have won those fights and wants a rematch to prove it to the world.
Pac would be a fool to give Marquez a rematch by this point and win or lose after Hatton. The rematch was close but if it weren't for a incorrect scorecard in the first fight we probably wouldn't have seen a rematch. Those fights are way too close and with Pac's stock it really isn't worth it. I'd love to see a trilogy but don't hold it against him.
