Tito stops Cotto, but he isn't stopping Margarito. In fact, Trinidad could lose to Margarito because he doesn't take shots to well. Tito's spent just as much time on the canvas as he has in retirement.
No. A great chin usually beats a great punch. Watch Earnie Shavers tee off on a shot Muhammad Ali, watch George Foreman tee off on George Chuvalo (he got stopped, but was never hurt), Robinson on Lamotta, Hearns on Hagler. Margarito's chin is granite, and while Tito was a very heavy hitter, I can't see him stopping Margarito.
No, you're speaking your opinion. The truth is unknown, this is pure speculation. However, there is educated speculation, and blatantly biased speculation.
i've said in the past that if he did stop margarito, it would be late in the fight. but it wouldn't be a clean ko... but i doubt margo would be stopping tito. it took him 11 rounds to grind down cotto, who's chin is worse than trinidad's. and a lot of tito's knockdowns were because of balance problems.
Who is to say 9 or 10 rounds of Margarito's relentless pressure doesn't force Tito to succumb? Did you see what he did to Cotto? He was busted up something shocking. Tito had a better chin than Cotto, but it's the physical damage. Margarito accumulated the damage on Cotto, so the chin won't be a huge factor. Can someone who is quite one-dimensional in their movement (Tito) really resist the pressure? You have to look at it from both sides and stop overrating Tito's power. He was no Tommy Hearns.
Tito won't be running away from Margarito, he's got to much pride for that so he would be right there to get hit just like Margarito would be. If you're asking me who would outlast the other, I just don't see any Welterweight in recent memory..except for Hearns who could stop Margarito in a 12 round fight. Cotto can hit, and he hit Margarito with every single thing he had..and nothing..not a wobble, nothing. And also, it's worth mentioning that Cotto has more ability than Tito. In my opinion. But Cotto wouldn't take Tito's shots, and that's why he would lose. In terms of ability however, Cotto is superior to Tito.
i think trinidad had a lot more power than cotto though. i mean tito could stop you with one punch (wouldn't be doing that with margo though), while cotto has to dish out a lot of punishment to put you away. we'll agree to disagree i guess:good
No. Hearns would have to box against Margarito. If he tried to fight him he would risk getting stopped himself. Of course, with the kind of power he possessed, an early stoppage is a massive chance. But you only need to look at the Hagler fight to see what a great chin can do against Hearns (I'm not suggesting Margarito's chin is anywhere near as proven as Hagler's though). Robinson would be a better show at stopping him IMO. He had a granite chin himself, and such ferocious combinations with dynamite in each fist is the recipe for a knockout. Robinson is close to the best puncher of all time (not just raw power, overall punching). Note: I don't like Margarito. I was shattered about Cotto losing to him. But I can't help but admire the guy. What a chin, and what a heart. You can't underestimate it.
margo's pressure actually makes it easier for Tito as he'll be coming to Tito and get hit that easier and way to often
