He just started his professional career late. He is 5'10" and I believe was fighting at light welter at the age of 19.
no, Ward suddenly became available when the Lemiuex fight was about to be signed shockmaster/dirtydan/ surreal monotony
Here is a record from 2000 Junior championship http://amateur-boxing.strefa.pl/Championships/WorldJuniorChamps2000.html 63.5 kg is under 140.
This reminds me of when Antonio Margarito demolished Miguel Cotto LEGITIMATELY!! The so called champions were scared silly. No one wanted to face him. So they came up with a plan Get Mosely juice him to the gills. Get Moselys trainer Richardson to claim he saw "PLASTER BLOCKS" fall out of Margarito's wraps & the CSAC will suspend him. They also lucked out that Tony had back problems couldn't train properly was heavy so had to lose weight fast & so was weight drained & far from 100% I hope they are not contemplating any such skullduggery to try to ruin Golovkin's career too. I'll be watching closely
Golovkin definitely is a small middleweight. For the Lemeiux fight, he came in at 165 at the 30 day weigh in where fighters can't weigh more than 176 (Lemieux weighed 175.6 or something). That means 11 pounds inside the limit. Then weighed 165.5 at the 7 day weigh in. So he actually put on half a pound between the two weigh ins. That is obviously not a fighter who remotely struggles to make weight.
I wouldn't trust those 30 and 7 day weigh-in results. Geale's weigh changes were really weird against Cotto. The fact is, at the age of 19, Golovkin fought at 140, while Ward fought at 175.
Who did Hopkins beat at 160 ? Glen Johnson ? Keith Holmes ? John David Jackson ? Joe Lipsey ? Hardly a murderer's row !
People complain about GGG fighting bums yet no one complains about Canelo to do the same thing. Who are the best MW right now that GGG is not fighting? To the haters everyone is a bum and GGG should move up yet you have Canelo, Cotto, Jacobs fighting bums too. Fine, Cotto vs Canelo fought but we know it was only because of the money both bring to the table, not because they are both the considered the best at MW. Same with Quillin vs Jacobs, they fought because of Haymon but will continue with their bum quest just like every other MW.
So you are saying GGG shouldn't fight Canelo because Canelo was a former JrMW/WW? So whos is Canelo as the MW champ suppose to fight, other former JrMW? And it's not fair for Golovkin to fight a former JrMW that can't make the JrMW limit anymore but it's okay for GGG to fight at SMW while still making the MW comfortably?
Those three names are better than anyone on Bumlovkin's resume and it aint even close. Glen Johnson won the legitimate LHW title ffs - and Hopkins remains the only man to have stopped Glen.
