Yes, the (illegal)hand wraps would cause him to hurt his opponent more, but that has little to do with his ability to take punches. Im still trying to figure out what exactly KO'd Margo. He took massive punches from Cintron(hardest hitter in the division) and Cotto's punches and like Larry Merchant said,"Ate them like M&M's". Yet he didn't seem to take Shanes too well

Shane loaded up on his punches. He actually hads the nutz to lean into his punches, and the strength to tie up Margo if needed. Cotto couldn;t really tie up Margo, so he wasn't very interested in really sitting on his punches.

And I think Cintron's power is overrated. Period.

Margos chin held up for awhile.. he took about 100+ completely flush shots.

As I said some time back, Shane would commit to bodyshots unlike any of Margarito's other opponents and inevitably that will wear a fighter down

I didn't think he would KO him but he sapped Margarito's energy from the get go with a good body attack and was much more physical than anyone has ever been with Margarito. As the fight wore on he landed more and more bombs. You can only take so much. Margarito took a lot of shots against Cotto but the difference was that he never got tired and he never got discouraged

Shane beat the fight out of him with the combo of hard body and head shots, and the fact that Margarito couldn't do anything. He took his will away and broke him down

A lot of them were fight-ending type shots for most normal welters. It seemed like Margo forgot how to block a right hand in there. You would think the guy would wake up after eating a dozen of them and raise his hands a bit. His corner was useless in there as well. All of Mosley's shots were looping right and lefts that are not that hard to defend against.

Margarito looked really distracted and unfocused in there which is rare for him and his legs were gone by the 4th round. I really didn't expect him to decline so badly at 30 years of age. Although he took his share of punishment he was never wobbled or hurt badly from his previous fights unlike Vargas.

His defense for this fight was atrocious. We all know he is no defensive wizard but he can block/parry quite a few punches. I think he let the comments about his iron chin get to him. He did not worry about what was coming instead concentrated on getting to Mosley. Obviously a horrible strategy.

To the Thread Started: That chin is still Iron... did you not see those huge punches. Mosley put all his body into them. Most fighters would have been out before the 3rd if they had received those punches.

Simple, even when Cotto and Cintron landed flush shots, they weren't able to completely sit down on their punches. They were mostly landed while going backwards. Mosley was able to sit down on his punches. But it's not like Marg was hurt the first few times he was hit flush. It took a lot to chop down Marg. I also think the eventual wear and tear of using his head as a defensive measure through all these years might've caught up to him to some extent.

I don't think his chin will ever be the same after such a brutal beat down. It might still rank up there but not the same. Also, there's the mental aspect of knowing that you can be hurt for both himself and his opponent.

It's amazing how much worse someone's chin looks when they are fatigued and discouraged

By the last few rounds Margarito was completely exhausted from Shane's sustained body attack, and was mentally finished as he knew he had no chance of winning

Mosley is one of the most underrated body punchers ever so it came as no surprise to me but you look at his fights against Williams, Cotto, Cintron, they never established and stuck to a body attack the way Mosley did

because theres only so many dead on punches u can take from a big puncher like Mosley (Mosleys power surprised me it was more than he had in his fight with Cotto.. he was powerful)

Are you serious. I have been critical about Margo about the handwraps... but I sure as hell can't question his chin. Mosley landed so many disgusting flush, hard, accurate power punches that I was amazed that it actually took that long for Margo to go down. A great chin only goes so far.

I saw the fight twice and i didn't see Mosley go to the body THAT MUCH as everyone seems to claim. Also noticed that Merchant said that Mosley landed a couple of vicious shots during the fight which i didn't see as devastating. Mosley did go to the body regularly but i don't think it was that devastating to Marg. It was the FLUSH right hands time and time again that did him in.

I personally think that it definitely was not the same Margarito. I think he was distracted. About what? Only he knows. It could have been the wrapping incident or maybe after being ringside for the Mosley and Mayorga fight, he thought he would have an easy night. Whatever the case, Mosley had a great gameplan and did exactly what a focus champ should do, which is to capitalise on whatever shortcomings an opponent offers.
