For what he was tryin to do. Which was get his 60% cut for the KO.

I mean, we all know that

    A) The man is 45 years old, and his stamina isn't what it used to be, as evident in his fight with Calzaghe.

    B) He's not a knockout puncher.

    C) We all know that he'll fight dirty.

Do I think he was injured, of course not, but I do think he made the decision to take a break so he could attack Jones with everything he had in order to knock him out. You think it was a coincidence that he was most active right after his "injury" time outs?

The man is a business man, just like Floyd. Except Floyd would never go for the KO under any circumstances, but Floyd also has excellent stamina, so at least at this point, probably would not act injured.

But the point is, Hopkins proved once again, that you don't have to run all around the ring to beat your opponent. You can shut them down, by standing right in front of them and using feints. He fights like old timers. Guys like Joe Louis and Ezzard Charles fought similiar.

There is a reason why they are considered great. Of course more movement is necessary when your opponent has a brick head, and he's doing nothing but coming foward, but Jones isn't that type of fighter.

He's a guy that is used to having his opponent chase him, and not one that chases.

This allowed Hopkins to display his dominance in a truly old school type of style, where neither opponent was a dummy. (Although in some cases, pressure was necessary for a particular fighter to win, guys like Armstrong, Lamotta, etc, who used intelligent pressure to beat their opponents are exceptions.)

Hopkins managed to shut Jones offense out, land almost all of his shots, conserve energy, and not get hit much in the process.

Yeah, he did ruin this though with his ball punching, and play acting, but you have to remember this a 45 year old non puncher going for the KO.

He did the best he could, came up short with the KO, but managed to make a fight that would have been even more boring at least a little more exciting, and still almost shut Jones out on the scorecards.

That was a perfect fight? Recently Jones, has been completly outboxed, and ko'd in a few minutes. Bernard, had to fake again to catch his breath, and then had to resort to headbutts. It was a terrible fight.

But Bernard doesn't fight like Lamotta or Duran or other guys that come foward.

He doesn't have the stamina, isn't privy to taking any possible punishment, and isn't a puncher.

At 45, he would have left himself vunerable if he pursued a pressure fighting, volume punching, tactic.

    That's just not B Hop.

B Hop swept the scorecards. He goes foward, he may make Jones look good, lose more rounds, and possibl get knocked out.

I had forgotten that a KO in this fight meant a 60% cut.....
......that explains why Hopkins was overreacting to the fouls.....

......my guess is that a DQ would have also given Hopkins the 60% cut.

I'm not sure if a DQ would have given him 60%, but that's a factor to consider as well.

The "perfect" fight in the sense that it got the job done, which is basically all Hopkins shoots for. All power to him if he can keep doing it and getting wins.

The fact, that he NEEDED an incompetent ref, fouls and numerous rest breaks against a very gun shy and SHOT Roy Jones, suggest to me that he is in for 1 hell of a beating if he fights Dawson, Haye or Direll. Haye told him NO, But Dawson has been waiting to kick his ass for years, Hopkins is gonna get a beating if he fights Dawson.
