Yea you're right, and some fighters it motivates. But Roach clearly wanted to stop the fight but knew the heart of Penalosa and didn't want to hurt Penny. Penalosa was getting beaten every round for a long time.

Ortiz was clearly in the fight on the cards and probably a few points ahead.

The corner could have done a better job, I think, but Ortiz looked out of it emotionally after that round. They were trying to snap him out of it.

Read MY post. "Im gonna stop the fight" is a better motivator thatn "Do you want us to stop it". That translates as "listen kid, I don't think you can win this, and neither do you, so do you wnat to quit?" whereas I'm gonna stop the fight translates as "What the **** are you doin? Get out there and ****in fight or I'll stop you before he does".

Hey thats my point, Penalosa was in a worse position and an easier position to to say "hey, you know what Roach, you're right, lets call it a night, I have no chance in winning", but he did the opposite and fought til the end.

If my corner ever say something like that to me I would punch them out. No joke. That is not a way to motivate any fighter! You ****ing maggots!

The most important part of the loss was Maidana couldn't miss with his right hand. trust me. Maidana will definitely be in Ortiz mind simliar to Forrest vs Mayora 2 where Vernon was scared to really do anything

The corner had a gameplan, Ortiz didn't follow it.

I'm from socal/tijuana area, I'm a gym level fighter and I'm familiar with a lot mex fighters, they do focuse on a lot of defense but mexicans just love to fight. Its like a sign of weakness if one is not willing to engage.

Not to young inexperienced fighters. You don't go telling a young kid in a back and forth fight that you are gonna stop it. It puts in their head that they should quit. And you could see he didn't come out the same way afterwards.

i did think it was pretty damn premature that they were telling him they were going to stop it. i saw absolutely no reason for that at that point. then again, it's not like ortiz was paying attention anyways, it seemed like he was more focused on the punishment he was taking and trying to decide if he actually wanted to fight or not. regardless, they definitely shouldn't have been telling victor that they were going to stop it. that seemed absurd to me.
