Everyone was saying Carl Froch was ducking Degale by retiring. Right now Froch could probably come out of retirement and knock out Degale. I know that Badou Jack beat Degale even though it was a draw. I hope Caleb Truax could beat Degale again hopefully Truax is given a pretty good purse, I like when unknown fighters do good for themselves finanicially.
Well, those people were idiots, easily misled by hype, uhhhhh ohhhhh, look out Chunky just beat Periban and Brandon Gonzalez, so you know what that means? Froch would have destroyed DeGale and Jack with ease, quite frankly a fresh out of retirement Kessler would have as well.
It happens all the time when boxers retire. The nature of this game means that there is always the next contender lined up for a champ......so the second he retires, he's labelled as ducking/avoiding that next fight. The fact of the matter is that Froch wasn't prepared to take a step down after his last fight. He'd just fought in front of 80,000, against a young contender (Who's currently 'the guy' in the division until CEJ beats him). Why would he, essentially, step down and fight Degale? Only two fights would have made him continue imo- -GGG at Wembley -Ward at his beloved Nottingham Forest's ground Neither were going to happen. GGG was not big enough for a Wembley payday and Ward had no reason to travel and fight there. In theory Anthony Joshua could beat Parker, Wilder and Fury in his next 3 fights, decide to retire and people will claim he's ducking the next new contended....which could be Usyk.
Absolutely. How people assume Jack or Degale could put a dent in froch is beyond me. They couldn't significantly outclass each other.....
@Willie Maeket I can still see you. No that's not what I do, because the guys I said that Ward was ducking are world class, and have several impressive wins on their resumes. Gvozdyk has 2 very damn fine wins over Chilemba and Gonzalez, and his wins over Mohammedi, Karpency, Baker and Sierra aren't too bad either. Add to that his impressive list of wins in the WSB, not to mention, he was an solid amateur, who's heavy handed, sharp, fleet footed and accurate and obviously anyone with a degree of intelligence, can spot a stylistic issue when they see one, and he would be for Ward. Beterbiev, another amateur sensation, already has 2 former world champs on his resume, and several decent Light Heavyweight contenders he's racked up KO victories against. He used to compete at Heavyweight, and is pure muscle with raw brute strength. Most have said he'd beat Kovalev, not I, and its fairly obvious, his power is nasty. Would he beat Ward? Who knows, but one thing is for certain, I doubt anyone is hankering to fight him all that much to find out. Bivol is great, I'm a fan, but I'm not convinced as others that he could beat Ward, he needs to beat Barrera first to convince me he'd have a chance. To say Beterbiev and Gvozdyk, both genuine wrecking machines with youth on their side could beat an ageing Ward, that needed every advantage he could get including cheating to beat Kovalev, isn't as delusional as thinking a guy who's rather featherfisted, who had already lost to Groves, and even with 2 KD's against shot old past it Dirrell, barely won, could beat the Froch that KO'd Groves cold, who was levels above anyone he'd shared the ring with and actually won against. Froch didn't duck ****, he would have fought and in my opinion beaten Golovkin, DeGale he'd have zero fear of, he just wanted to retire, he was getting old, and wanted to end his career with a fairytale brutal KO, at Wembley. I got that, its a pity no one else does, at least not those with an agenda and an axe to grind.
Yep this, when Calzaghe retired he was supposedly ducking Dawson and Froch, when Lewis retired he was ducking Vitali a fighter he already beat. It's just fanboy nuthuggers trying to build up their fighter. A fighter at the end of their career deciding to retire is never a duck, it's a fighter deciding he no longer has the drive to continue doing what they do, it's never an easy decision.
Exactly..... And the guy retiring always has a bigger name/profile within the industry than the next guy coming through. That's why the next guy coming through uses his name and the 'ducking' accusations to raise his own profile.
saying froch ducked degale is like saying Calzaghe ducked froch - both are not true if a domestic level fighter wants a place on a bigger stage then he needs to earn it I've been debating this recently regarding European fighters who never wanted to test themselves on the biggest stage of all, which is just an extension of what this thread is about
See, really, he was ducking Caleb Truax. He knew that while at the time he retired (July 2015), "Golden Ax" was mostly known for drawing with journeymen and getting trounced in his biggest steps up (by Jermain Taylor and Danny Jacobs), that eventually, down the road, he saw something brewing in those beady little eyes. A stone cold Brit killer. He didn't wanna be that guy, that Golden Ax eventually crossed the Atlantic to snatch a belt from. No sir, not Froch. He's a savvy old fox, that one. He said "better you than me, Chunky" and faded into the soft fringes of the limelight, taking consolation in Rachael Cordingley's warm embrace for his legacy being cut short by the emergence of this destined Slayer of the English.
