i think Vanes Martirosyan deserves a shot at alvarez , as he is the silver belt holder , but he has a fight next month.

Without Ortiz as an opponent for Canelo, Chavez might have just wrapped that date up :good

I was thinking the same thing, Would certainly test how good Alvarez' chin is....

I said a couple of weeks ago that Signing Ortiz to fight alvarez when yesterdays fight still hadnt been fought was a massive insult to Lopez, Evidentally Lopez felt the same.

I love Maidana as a fighter WA but I think this one would be a massive beat down to Canelo.

I don't know if you saw the Maidana vs. Alexander fight back in February but it was as one-sided as you will see with Alexander teeing off at times and battering Maidana with select shots.

That was Maidana's first foray to 147lbs and immediately after the fight, in his words he said he felt slow at the weight, felt terrible and had no legs, hence going back to 140lbs where he felt good.

Going skywards one more division to 154lbs, whilst I see your thinking of two big punchers going at it, I hate to say but in my opinion, Canelo (who would be 162lbs fight night) starts teeing off on the much smaller Maidana after 3rds and I actually see Maidana being stopped in about 6 or 7.

Maidana has moved to Robert Garcia's camp now following that loss and that's a shame as it pricks the balloon of what could have been a potential Maidana vs. Rios fight in the future. Now if you want to see two guy's phonebox it all night long, that would have been the fight.

In my opinion, Maidana needs one-two fights back against well matched opposition to get his confidence back as the Alexander loss again was a one-sided beat down and then he can be matched hard again.

Late edit: Maidana looking for a big payday or he's completely lost his marbles - on the 'Scene', "I'll fight Canelo, don't worry about the weight"... which translates too - "I'm looking to cash out!"

Hey Shaun, you may have missed it, but Vanes has knocked back the shot vs. Canelo on some 2-3 occasions now.

Vanes was first call for the Sept. 15th date, followed by Kirkland, then Ortiz, now whoever.

Vanes has proved frustrating to the WBC as he's claimed at times to not getting his right opportunity, yet when presented, he knocks it back.

Kegsy who posts on here may be able to come on and elaborate, he follows Vanes pretty tight as a fan and may know more as to why he keeps declining the opportunities.

For mine (for what it's worth), I think Vanes is over-rated, although time will tell and I could be completely wrong.

P.S: Late edit, I see Vanes talking it up big to fight Canelo "anywhere" over on the 'Scene', shame his stones have gone missing on numerous other occasions when the opportunity's presented.

He talks big, but his actions haven't quite followed suit yet...

He accepted at just under $1m, then come back complaining and pulled out claiming he wanted and was worth$2.5m!!!

Fair to say GBP told him to not let the door hit him in the ass on the way out...

Alvarez should fight someone like Kirkland or Lara. Why has Alvarez been continually defending his world title at 154 against men who don't even campaign at that weight ? Boxing is ridiculous.
