Guerrero was able to bully him to the ropes from the leverage in his legs, Berto's twigs can't get that leverage. Can't Fight on the Inside. Glass Chin. He has the built of a brawler but masquerades as a boxer. I felt a little bad for him because of the Eye Swelling, and terrible ref, but that comes with the territory of boxing. I wouldn't mind a Guerrero-Berto 2.
It looked like Berto didn't even want to be in there tonight. At first I thought he was paid off because the first 8 round he hardly threw any punches. I don't know what to say about him.
When Berto came out in the first round using the shoulder roll I could not beleive it. He does not have the body for it or something it looked all wrong. Seemed like the wrong idea to use a different style of fighting all of a sudden like that.
Bad defense **** footwork can't fight on the inside weak chin low ring iq. He's nothing but a slugger with speed.
i won vcash tonight on this fight. berto is a gatti level action fighter. hes got alot of flwas but thats what makes him exciting. hes got heart
Flat footed at all times, zero lateral movement, lacks any understanding of how to operate on the inside, and a sub-par punch resistance. Needs a new trainer in the worst way.
He used the shoulder roll against a ****ing southpaw. How ******ed was that? Guerrero couldn't miss with the straight left down the pipe.
Started out in the wrong stance, completely unprepared to roll and turn away from the southpaw overhand left. I agree about the stamina issues, the man explodes and then gasps for air and waits to repeat. He had many opportunities to throw on the inside and seemed to only be able to throw in bursts, while Guerrero almost never stopped punching. He needs to develop a rhythm and learn how to set punches up. His straight right hand was missing, and every time he went for it, it was only after leading with the jab. He has the advantage at range and should take advantage of it with variety, not pawing the **** out of Guerrero's lead hand and then lunging with a right hand he can easily anticipate. I remember him looking impressive against Quintana despite the bicep injury, he needs to get back to the basics and work on his fundamentals. He has a lot of speed, power, grit, but he needs to understand he can't just bully everyone and expect them to fold when he lands a right uppercut.
Berto doesn't have the ability to stick and move and create his own distance. I would mind seeing a rematch. That fight wasn't really close. Guerrero ate Berto's power with seemingly no problem. It isn't like Berto was moments away from KO'ing him. Berto needs to either retire, or learn how to stick and move, and do it the whole fight. If he can't KO a guy, he is ****ed.
Shame he had to rely on shoe shinning combos to try and bag rounds. At least he kinda adapted to a little infighting in the final rounds
It's like Berto forgot who he is/was. Berto was always a "Boxer". Stayed on the outside, used range, his speed and his jab. In his past 3 fights (Ortiz, that Euro dude and Guerrero) Berto just seem content with laying on the ropes fighting on the inside and trying to bang. WTF? IMO, It's one of two things...Either he no longer has the stamina to "Box" for 12 rounds or he has a VERY POOR CORNER.
