Khytrov has regressed so badly since turning pro. He's looked terrible in almost every fight. This fight however, was the worst we've ever seen him. Recent fight vs Brinson: - Khytrov ONLY won because Brinson gassed out by round 6 - Khytrov looked slow as hell. I've NEVER seen him look this slow - He looked lifeless in his face (I heard he had a stomach bug, looked dead in between rounds) - Wasn't even throwing enough punches - No real power behind his punches (very strange for Khytrov) - Innacurate punching - Unintelligent pressure - Lacked head movement - His physique looked tremendous though Brinson became stiff by the 6th round, foot-speed disintegrated and no snap behind his punches. Even in round 7 and 8, Khytrov looked bad. Khytrov in the amateurs = defensively responsible, boxed beautifully whilst also having great rough aggression + monstrous power. I'm annoyed as hell, Khytrov has the tools to make for a very good pro, but he seems lost without Anatoly Lomachenko. He needs a better trainer. Khytrov NEEDS TO KEEP THE FAITH, because he's a talented fighter who just needs things to align. I believe in him.
Well it would help if you realized his opponent was Nick Brinson and not Elvin Ayala. But you're right he needs a better trainer. But the reason why Brinson gassed out was because of the shots Khytrov was landing took something out of him coupled with Khytrov constant pressure wearing him out. And He was sick.
I never seen Khytrov fight in the amateurs but this "regression" doesn't make any sense to me at all, generally speaking, when amateurs turn pro, they struggle make the adjustment in terms of being able to sit on their punches, go to the body, know how to pace themselves... Case in point Zou Shiming. That's not the case with Ievghen Khytrov, he's got none of that, in fact it looks to me like he'd make an absolutely terrible amateur and his style is more suited to the pros than vice versa... I've absolutely no idea how he was so succesful in the amateurs.
I think it was legitimately because he was sick, he usually has good head movement, he usually sits down on his punches, he usually cuts off the ring well, he's usually accurate and he's usually faster....let's just chalk this up as he didn't feel good, you could tell by looking at him. He won every round against Coley who was a mover, and Louishomme who was a mover and Rose and Fortune who were movers, no big deal sometimes excuses are valid and Brinson isn't that bad either. So he was sick and had a bad night against a decent opponent but he still brutally stopped him.
He won every round against Melendez and Coley, I think its that we expect every fighter from Eastern Europe to take the Lomachenko and Beterbiev route but most don't, Dominic Wade has been a pro since 2009 and just lost to Soliman who was robbed, Benavidez has been a highly touted prospect since 2010 when he turned pro yet they don't get the same s*** even though their careers and many others have moved at a snail's pace, Khytrov has been a pro for a little over two years and already has 11 fights and 10 of those by KO, I'm sorry but that ain't bad, and we are holding him to an impossible Loma/Usyk/Beterbiev like standard. He's doing good but we expect the moon and he's just giving us the stars.
lol thanks for pointing out the typo, hope I didn't confuse peeps. I don't agree with that being the reason for Brinson gassing. Yeah, he was sick and that could explain it. But that doesn't excuse how bad he's been in the pros for him. It's sad to see, seems like the other day when he was just clinically KTFOing people in the Worlds.
You can show weaknesses even in fights you win, and that's always been the case with Khytrov, there's no performances that he REALLY impressed you in because you can always see that the guy's got a lot of *****s in his armour to be exploited. When I watch him, he reminds me of Golovkin if you took 70% of Golovkin's technical and boxing ability away with not as good power... Still, saying all that I do consider him a top prospect at MW and not a hypejob at all (except by those who say he's the next Golovkin and **** like that)... I don't think he's another Chudinov.
I agree he does need to improve some things, obviously but let's not beat the hell out of him just yet.
CST80, do you at least now agree with me that he doesn't have as much power as advertised? The thing with guys like Khytrov and Kudryashov is that they look good, but have some glaring holes in their games. So some people only see the big knockout, and call them the next GGG or Kovalev or whatever, but when someone a little more impartial and level headed points out these faults, all of a sudden we're haters or have an agenda or whatever That's why this whole hyped prospect/hype job bs can be so confusing. A talented little boxer (ex billy Joe Saunders) has nice skills, ppl point them out, and everything fine, because he's doing good and doesn't have any crazy expectations on him But when you say this guy will be a future p4p, and will overtake GGG, and then they win but don't look as good, they're considered hype jobs, not because they suck, but because they're not as good as people talked them up to being
Yer. Derev is #1, then Murata and then I have Khytrov at number 3, I'm not really schooled on Quigley so I can't comment on him, then maybe after that Esquiva?
No He's been in with guys with decent chins, GGG couldn't get Ouma and Murray out quick, I guess that means he's a hypejob.
You're not known to being the most open minded person Watch Khytrov lose in his next few fights when he takes a big step up, and all of a sudden you'll be telling us how you always knew he wasn't as good and blah blah blah like you always do
Well then don't comment if you haven't seen him fight in the amateurs. He was World Amateur Champion with a reputation that used to genuinely invoke fear. He was more suited to pros then than he is now, that's the weird part. We say he's transitioning, but right now he's going through a lot of misses but eventually he'll land a hit and it'll all fall into place.
