I'm being dead serious here, guys. I think in light of recent decisions such as Ward vs Kovalev I and Canelo vs Golovkin, we have to accept the official judges know better, and it's up to us as fans to change with the times.

    Some new criteria to consider:

-Jabs no longer count as landed punches unless they are really really hard, perhaps only in the event they score a knockdown.
-Body punches should roughly equal 5-10 punches to the head.
-Making your opponent miss is far more important than landing your own punches, one missed punch should roughly cancel out 5-10 landed punches.

With this new criteria established, I think just for fun, we should revisit some classics and see how they hold up to the superior modern way of scoring.

I selected Holmes vs Cobb, and to my surprise, I scored it 10 rounds to 5 for Cobb. I think this is sensible. Holmes may have landed more punches but you have to consider he also missed more punches, and most of his landed punches were jabs to the head and face region. Where as Cobb's lands were to the body.

Look at this sequence below. Holmes misses an entire combination and Cobb sneaks in that hook to the body. Looks like a sequence straight out of Golovkin/Canelo. I think if this fight was called by a more sensible announcer like Max Kellerman, it would help people understand Cobb's sweet science better.

I like the Tony Zale left hook to the body, right hook to the jaw combo by Cobb there. Beautiful how he was able to transition so smoothly to that after effortlessly slipping all of those shots too.

I agree, reminds me of a heavyweight Andre Ward.

Also under modern rules I believe Cooney should have a TKO win over Holmes. It was low but it looked borderline to me, and Holmes clearly wasn't defending himself. The top of his glove touched Holmes' belt. Irrefutable body punch TKO.

Definitely should've been a TKO win for Cooney, and as you say his glove did touch Holmes' belt.

And look at how high Holmes' trunks are too.

These old timers throw body punches too high, I'm not sure they should count.
