...much like Mendy in the men's co-main, Edith Matthysse is virtually guaranteed to go the distance in her fights. She's 16-10-1, never stopped, and has scored one single KO, ever.

 

...and Brodnicką, for her part, is 17-0 (2).

So buckle up, this one is going to be on for about half an hour.

 

Matthysse is pressuring and working the body with both hands when Brodnicką pinches her face between her clamped-together wrists. Brodnicką doing nothing but run & hold so far in the opener, perhaps wanting to feel out her opponent before generating any offense herself.

10-9 Matthysse

 

Gazelle hooks and line drive rights from Matthysse, chasing Brodnicką from corner to corner. Flat-out running and occasionally hopping in to grab, Brodnicką is offering nothing in return except a few pinball machine paddles on the flanks in the clinch.

Wtf is "Kleo" doing? I hope she doesn't think all she needs to do at home is see the final bell to get a gift, because this would be a stretch even for corrupt judges at this rate..

20-18 Matthysse

 

Seeing very nervous/critical tweets about Brodnicką on Twitter from her fellow Poles...

 

Brodnicką tries coming forward at least now in round three, but it doesn't go that well for her. Matthysse gladly yanks her into a standing version of what in MMA would be called "pulling guard", smacking her upside the head or plugging her in the midriff with a free hand. Closest round yet as Brodnicką did let her hands go a bit on the inside but Matthysse's body shots edged her panicked & disjointed headhunting power flurries.

Matthysse hooking away into either side of Brodnicką's head, and shrugging off her clinch attempts. Brodnicką retreating into the ropes where Matthysse slings heavy uppercuts into her guts on the way in, then shoeshines to pin her in place. Brodnicką very ineffective on the backfoot.

40-36 Matthysse

 

Brodnicką running away, poking jabs into the air, falling several inches shy of target as Matthysse applies smart pressure, gloves raised to her nose in position to pick off jabs but leaving her a clear line of sight, bobbing & leaning to either side as she advances, opening up with heavy body combos as Brodnicką navigates the corners. Brodnicką lays a flurry on her jumping into a clinch and Matthysse works her free right hand into the ribs.

50-45 Matthysse

 

Unless there's a horrible robbery, Edith is about to put some real daylight between herself and her brothers Walter (never held a major championship) and Lucas (WBA regular welterweight champ for six months), at least on paper, with a third world title reign.

 

Brodnicką has no answer for Matthysse, save running & tying up. None of her jabs on the outside are thrown with the intention of scoring, rather just to help pave her escape route, and up close all her shots are sloppy & rushed, no aim taken. Matthysse's body shots are still the only thing landing cleanly.
