Lets be honest Buchanon was a good fighter, but the reason why he hasn't cut it on the after dinner speaking is because he is a very bitter man. every time he speaks his obsession with his own achievements makes it impossible to get a decent opinion from him. Even in this video the interviewer is trying to get his opinion on modern boxing and he is only talking about himself. Thats why he wouldn't cut it as a trainer, manager etc.
i think that is a fair point ,you can see he just wants to go gver past glories, but then how many profesionals in his shoes wouldent do the same? but your spot on about his bitterness wouldent exactly make him the most easiest of going managers though
Eh? Ken did catch the fella in the act and proceeded to knock seven shades of **** out of him as a result.
He reeks of it. Its a shame. As for been one of the greats- those who think so are having a laugh. He was a decent technical boxer, active at a time when UK boxing had virtually no one else at world class, the praise heaped upon him was often ridiculous. I think the best one was the Ring Magazine article that compared him to Sugar Ray Robinson (written by a brit). His form at Euro level was fairly impressive. Beating an old Ismael Laguna wasn't particuarly outstanding, other then the fact it took part in the states. More impressive perhaps was the win over Carlos Ortiz or Jim Watt but again Ortiz was ancient and Watt wasn't particuarly great either. Some people tried to argue with me the other day that Buchanon was a better fighter then Juan Man Marquez so a posted a video of both in action and asked them to explain why? They couldn't tell me. Its very easy to grab these fighters of yesteryear and put them on a pedastal. I respect the man as a fighter, but he just wasn't that great.
would be a tough talk i think, perhaps he needs to be talked into something good instead. we should have some kind of programme in place for people like ken, scott etc.they need to feel that their work is valued and bought back into the hub of boxing again. it's a shame that the sport is so money driven that once out of the spotlight, some fighters seem to be left to their own devices rather then guided onto a better path.:?
I read his auto-biography a few years ago and he does come across as a bit bitter. The manner in which he was defeated against Duran really hurts him. It's easy for me to sit back and say this but he should look at that fight and see that Duran was very much in command and was going to win via UD. He would never have beaten Duran.
He was unlucky with Duran in that fighters like Duran only come around once in a blue moon....and that moon was shining when Ken was at his peak.I believe that whilst Duran would have won any rematch,a rematch was justifiable after some shocking refereeing, and that would have put an end to any bitterness. K B's downfall after Duran was to manage himself..and sadly now it's too late to contemplate any career in boxing & this seemingly cry for help is not the last we will hear from him I fear.
at least one think u can say about Ken is that it doesn't look like he's suffered any long term head damage from boxing. He doesn't slur his words at all and can makes sence of what he's saying.
Ah, good old post two selective videos comparison process. Was it such fistic classics as Marquez vs Norwood or Marquez vs John you showed by any chance?. I could show someone Marquez fighting John(where thought he was robbed) adn they would struggle to tell me how he would be able to beat Calvin Grove.
Actually it was a fan made montage of their greatest performances. Get a grip know it all... silly ****. As for the performances against Norwood and John- have you actually seen them? Marquez was robbed times 2
Laugna wasn't that far removed from his prime when Ken beat him the first time.Hell he just beat Mando Ramos that same year. Lets also not forget the performance vs Paduano where Ken outboxed a WELTERWEIGHT. Or when he trounced Rubin Navarro. And Carlos Hernandez.Or Frankie Otero who I believe was 40-3 when Ken beat him.Or when he beat the hell out of Cullen as well.
Those fights were amazing your right. Do you remember the way Navarro used to box just like a prime Arturo Gatti? Me Neither... Whats your argument? That Ken was an ATG?
Navarro was a very good fighter and if matched up with Gatti I don't know if Gatti gets buy Navarro. Ken Buchanan an ATG?That shouldn't even be a question.
