Golovkin is in the top 10, but behind Greb, Hagler and Monzon. Had the talent to be in the top 3, but wasted years with Universum, and then was avoided by many people for years in the USA.
Aww c'mon GGG whupped Canelo's fat little ginger ass TWICE & almost made it Three in a row it was the closest of the 3 fights 115-113 either way . If only GGG had started to fight one round earlier he'd have had the hat trick
Great fighter and him outboxing Canelo is his late 30s helped a lot but he simply didn't accumulate enough quality wins to really prove he was one of the greatest imho
Canelo was coming in the ring at 175 + yet whined he wasn't really a middleweight LOL Trouble is we don't really know how good Canelo really is, or was because he never fought without his back up The NSAC , Vegas boxing & their officials gave him winning decisions he did not deserve as we all know In my book Canelo GGG & it aint even close
I was actually very interested in seeing how it played out in Classic. Not sure who moved it or why, but the results are skewed now.
Golovkin won the WBA interim title, then was immediately upgraded to WBA regular after Sturm was upgraded to WBA super, Golovkin then defended his belt 5 times all by KO, the last being Proksa. Between the Proksa and Rosado fight Geale defeated Sturm in a uinification bout making Geale unified and WBA super champ. Geale emediatly vacated his WBA super belt because of his mandatory GGG. At that piont GGG was or at least should have been WBA super, from the Rosado fight to the 2nd Canelo fight. I read somewhere that Univerum approached the WBA, asking that they create a title for Sturm to avoid the GGG fight, which was the WBA super title. All in all, Golovkin defended his title 20 consecutive times, 18 by devastating KO. He tied Hopkins record of title defenses and holds the highest KO percentage in middleweight championship history. At the very least he beat Canelo once clearly. I had him winning the 2nd as well. Prime GGG can hold his own against any middleweight in history. Where he stands number wise im not sure. He is a great all around fighter with a beyond proven chin. He would likely stand up to any middleweight in history chin wise. So he has power to be respected and a great chin as well. Thats a dangerous combination. Picture him and Roy jones at middleweight, Jones was blasting everybody out, but GGG would be able to be defensibly responsible, take the power that got through, then dish it out. Jones was a good pitcher but a bad catcher, so GGG had a great chance there. GGG is one of the best middleweights of all time, where he ranks im not sure, but he was one of the great ones, and is definitely one of his generations best.
