Hagler vs. Hearns. But that kind of effort and risk to stop a jab is not really great since you get hit with other punches. I guess not a great example. A better jab nullifies another jab. That is the best thing to eliminate a jab.

Having a good jab yourself, and the ability to counter and key off opposing jabs, stops them cold. If he's not comfortable throwing his, and you are comfortable throwing yours, it's done.

 

Alot of deserved Hopkins mentions, and his performance against Pavlik needs to be added to that list.

 

His quick steps to side and his sharp, jolting right hand over the jab had Kelly totally flummoxed.

When he started to look too hard for the right early in the second, Hopkins started whacking him with left hooks as soon as he loaded up.

Just read him like a book. Was outstanding

 

Complete performance.

Once Pavlik's jab had been taken, he had no offensive base so Hopkins could even afford to punch in combination.


Andre Ward also deserves a mention for taking away Kessler's jab, (even if we ignore the headbutts)

 

Kessler didn't win a portion of any round, even before the butting started. He was utterly neutralized, even if he was always a dog of few tricks(Albeit amazing ones).

The butts show the dirty fighting skills of Ward and are a scar on the fight; Andre did NOT need them to win.

 

Hopkins against Winky

 

Ward against Froch. Froch looked to work off of his jab, but Ward rendered it useless right from the start and picked Froch apart in an absolute master class.
