My cousin and I were talking about this earlier on. You guys been around the sport a lot longer than I have but if a fighters drained on the day of the weight in, why can't they just eat, and drink to re hydrate themselves back to to their original fight weight on fight night. When Oscar fought Pac how come he couldn't just drink a good amount of water, and eat enough food back to normal again. He had more than 24 hours to do so. Does going down in weight really effect the body to the point where u can't u recover even after eating. Explain this too me... And also, could any of u recommend me to anymore fights where a boxer was so drained from going down in weight that they just didn't look the same.
Chad Dawson vs Andre Ward is a recent example. Going down from 175 to 168, was getting hurt in sparring and stopped by Ward who hasn't knocked out a decent opponent.
Well the thing about the Oscar - Pac fight is that it's ok to do that when you are young since the body can rebound alot faster. When you are older your body can't do that. He was probably trimming himself down alot for 154 tbh.
Khan was killing himself to make 135 which led him to be hurt by Limond, Gomez and Prescott. Then he outgrew the 140 division meaning he was drained and then hurt by Maidana, Garcia and Diaz. You'll see how much of an impact weight draining has on punch resistance when he goes up to 147 and laughs off his opponent's haymakers.
Oscar's intention was to come in light to match Pac's speed and justify the fight in which he is very much too big in case he wins.
I think that Nacho Beristain insisted that Oscar remain under the ww limit during camp and that's what messed him up. Not certain though.
These fighters cut so much weight, that one day of eating normally and rehydrating isn't enough to repair the damage they've done. Not just they're dehydrated, but they are tired from having barely any food. Lalonde vs SRL was a good example.
Rios vs. Murray. Sometimes a fighter taxes the body too hard and one day isn't enough to recover. I've been told weigh in day can feel like having the flu.
Dawson vs Adamek as well. Probably the most extreme example of this in recent years is Chris Byrd when he went down to fight at light heavy. He looked like a skeleton.
Ray,with his usual manipulative aplomb, got a LHW belt at 168. Top notch stuff from the master. Look at Cotto at the Malignaggi weigh in.I was half expecting to see Bob Geldof jump in with The Cars playing in the background.
why did dela hoya unnecessarily drained about This content is protected than he needed to for the weigh in anyway?? i'm sure oscar had a properly calibrated scale with him close by the day or the day before the weigh in where he can check his weight at anytime.
Delahoya was drained. Roach admitted it, only *******s will argue against it. Dawson was drained against Ward Jones when he moved down from Heavyweight Byrd moving down See the pattern here?
