6''4, 168-ish pounds so have a big reach advantage over most of the people I fight/spar. My Jab usually works wonders keeping them at bay but whenever I try to follow through with anything else I get Countered a lot of the time (Have to try and be more patient as I'm sometimes very wild with right hands). However I've noticed that if I'm keeping them at range with my Jab, I'm good at countering them if they try anything because I can see it a mile off. So I've decided to try and adopt a Counter-Punching style from now on, anybody know any fights I should look up to see some good examples? They don't have to be of pure Counter-Punchers either, example of good Countering from Boxers of other styles would be greatly appreciated as well.:bbb
Damn had a nice selection of yt clips for you to take a look at. then my server collapsed. [yt]LDrFQtbM2rc[/yt] [yt]ZEA2SRCPpkU[/yt] [yt]4ATaP2TyF9U[/yt] these guys are very good clean counterpunchers. of course with your hieght you should use your jab more than james toney and use loads of movement so somone like JMM who uses counterpunching with a nice upright boxing stance would be a good move [yt]MdwaocVA2mk[/yt] also these are just highlights try and find the fights so that you can see how they set thos punches up
Btw, bit off-topic but to save me making another thread if I'm sparring/fighting someone I've a reach advantage over and I jab them when they're in range and they step back, meaning neither of us can reach each other without stepping forward, if I step in to Jab them and perhaps throw a right hand as well, should I step back when I'm finished or stay there? Sorry if this is something basic but I've been very confused on this lately as I've heard you should never move backwards as this will eventually cause to go onto the ropes.:huh
Usually if you an introvert, defensive or counter-attacking fighting suits your better. Extrovert, offensive. There are more classifications and differences but something to keep in mind when choosing something as important as this.
