Freitas did in the fight with Corrales too, in the first knockdown.

    1) Erbito Salavarria fighting a draw with challenger Betulio Gonzalez - Salavarria was stripped of his title for using sugar water (considered an illegal stimulant) between rounds. They were going to award Gonzalez the title, but to his credit he refused it in that manner and fought Socrates Batoto for the vacant title.

    2) This one might be considered more in the vein of 'technical advantage cheating'. Primo Carnera was known for laying on his opponents imposing his bulk. Well, when the much smaller Tommy Loughran was challenging for his title, the story goes that Loughran loaded his hair with the most foul-smelling hair tonic available. Carnera still won but I read where Loughran said in a later interview that he still had photographs of Carnera pulling his head away from Loughran in a repulsed manner.

Newman & Bowe should have been banned for that blatant double team

Second fight between Sot Chitalada and Gabriel Bernal, in Chitalada's home country of Thailand. The first seven rounds last three minutes apiece, but then Chitalada gets dropped in the eighth round. The duration of the final five rounds:

    Round eight: 2:35
    Round nine: 2:50
    Round ten: 2:37
    Round eleven: 3:00

I can understand (if not condone) gamesmanship by a fighter and his corner. When the timekeeper, one of the people who are there to uphold the rules, is working in favor of one of the boxers, that's much worse to me.

A similar thing happened in the Bobby Czyz-Uriah Grant fight back in 1990. Czyz looked like he was on his way to a decision win, but was rocked in the final seconds of the 9th. Grant was putting heavy pressure on Czyz in the 10th and final round when the bell sounded a minute early.

As the great philosopher Classy Freddie Blassie once said:

    Win … if you can.

    Lose … if you must.

    But always, always cheat.

I partially blame the refs for these, but excessive clinching is cheating. "Warnings" are meaningless if there are no consequences. After the 3rd or 4th warning, deduct a point. Make them actually think and hesitate before frustrating the crowd and the opponent whose being punished for landing punches.
