Examples of Fighters nullifying the opponent's strong point?

Holyfield took away Tyson’s uppercuts and forward motion by:

A) Planting his front (left) knee right below Tyson’s groin, thus squaring Mike’s stance, when they were close, and …

B) In doing so, gained leverage so Tyson didn’t have a back foot to anchor with and driving him backwards.

There was some very technical stuff going on that allowed Holy to pretty much man-handle Mike.

 

Ray Leonard jabbing to the body of Roger Mayweather and cracking the Philly shell and .. of course it was sparring with Tommy Hearns who showed him the way

 

Ngannou nullified and at some stages exceeded Fury on a number of features that Tyson usually holds and enjoys over his opposition.

IMO, this muddies the waters re the question of how unprepared Fury was vs the unprecedented challenges presented to him by Ngannou - even IF, at the end day, Francis’ greatest strength is proven to be his being a specific, stylistic nightmare for Fury.

As you all know, boxing is as much a mental battle as a physical one, and there are very few in the sport as good at the mental stuff as Muhammad Ali. Watch what Ken Norton did to Ali in their third fight, and how he completely nullified Ali's supposed advantage in mental strength. Norton would win a round and then taunt Ali all the way back to his corner at the end of it. Ali simply didn't have an answer for what Norton did to him, and he left the ring immediately after the fight result was announced and didn't give any post-fight interviews.

It's actually very prevalent in Thai Boxing, too. It lends itself nicely to grappling, as well having your elbows already half way to the opponent's head. To throw a proper kick, the arms also play a role and the long guard position makes them easier to incorporate too. It's very, very effective.

 

Floyd had issues with Judah's counter lefts early in the fight. He nullified Judah's quick counter lefts, by throwing quick straight rights then would smother Judah's return counter lefts with his forearms. He would then work Judah on the inside (where he wasn't comfortable) and go to the body to slow him down.

One of Primo Carnera's great attributes was his size and how he would utilize that in a clinch by laying all 260 lbs on his opponent. Well, Tommy Loughran supposedly came up with a solution for this. The story goes he loaded his hair with the most foul-smelling, oily hair tonic and was told to stick his head in Carnera's face during the clinches. Loughran later said that he had pictures of Carnera pulling away from Tommy in the clinches in disgust. A good story. Pity Carnera still won. I often wondered after reading that story of what company specialized in 'Foul-smelling hair tonic'. Sales must've been s**t on that product.

Ngannou completely nullifying Fury's clinching/leaning surprised me. In retrospect, yeah, I should have expected a former UFC HW champ with sufficient size and strength to be able to do that, but was so used to seeing Fury manhandle everyone that I thought he'd do it to Ngannou too. Nope.

 

What Wlad did to Povetkin, Ibragimov, Chagaev and others. He made skilled boxers look like trash.

 

If it were that easy, everyone would do it.

 

...was nothing short of a disgrace.

What skilled boxers were those? Almost everyone he fought wasn't worth writing home about.
