    Bollocks, robinson was not a counter puncher in most of his fights with la motta and fought with him toe to toe, hearns was not a counter puncher, have you seen the leonard fight, he took the lead in the fight for the 1st 6 rounds and was winning with his jab,leonard then changed his style

    But he went up against a guy who was known as a counterpuncher, fought with a counterpuncher's lean even while being aggressive, and paid the price because of it.

    It is very difficult to counterpunch against a skilled counterpuncher with size and come off with a win.

    Leonard knew this and that's why he chose to fight aggressively against Hearns. If he counterpunched, it would be very likely, despite his faster hands, that he would not be able to overcome Hearn's size and reach advantage, which was evident anyway considering Hearns was ahead on the score cards.

    My point is, history says that a skilled big guy beats a skilled little guy for a reason. Rarely are there examples when this doesn't happen, and when it does it's because the little guy is the aggressor and wins by using his speed to overwhelm the larger opponent.

    Axe Man, you're making it too easy to pick on you with these ridonkulous posts. Some Floyd nuthugger could make an equally ridonkulous post citing all the times that a smaller defense-oriented fighter has beaten a larger more offensively oriented fighter, except that it's more likely they'd actually get their facts straight in the initial post.

    Ray Robinson wasnt counterpunching in the Lamotta fights that I've seen. More of an aggressor. Maybe I'm tripping because I've havent watched them in probably 4 years, maybe longer.

    Most recent that comes to mind is Williams/Quintana I

    That was a great fight...it's too bad that Quintana didn't implement the same fight plan during the 2nd fight. He actually bought into the idea that he could have knocked out Paul the first time had he been more aggressive. What a crock that idea turned out to be.
