hi im new to this forum and started boxing about a year ago and training for my first fight in september. i dont think im getting enough training in my club because all the trainer does is make me do circuts of 5 rounds of 10 pushups and situps with 30sec jogging inbetween. then i work the pads then he just leaves me with the heavy bag, not even going through pointers or giving me advice.
is this how it should be? then the rest is up to us to make a daily routine for ourselves?
or is this club just not good. period?

You'll get more feedback when you start sparring hopefully. Then you'll figure out which drills to focus on.

This reminds me of this guy who looked AWESOME on the heavy bag who used to train at our gym. He just freakin hits hard, had nice footwork and threw impressive combinations.

Pretty much everyone thought he looked like he was some world champion boxer, up until they saw him spar...

i have sparred and i need to work focus on my defence and my footwork but the trainer isnt doing any defensive drills etc. just the pads and the heavybag. and there are 3 trainers there but theyr all the same, its as if they want you to fail. my friends been there for 3years and hes won 4 fights but i dont see how he could of by the help of these trainers.

Talk to the trainer and express your concerns. You are paying to be trained so you should be questioning him if it doesnt seem up to your standards.

Are there aother gyms in your area?

I'd talk to him about it, then be prepared to walk if he isn't eager to help get you on track.

Be ready with suggestions because he might ask for them.

Coaching has been more or less non-existent in two of the gyms I've been to. I finally found a good one, the coach more or less had to rebuild me. I spent the first few months ironing out bad habits that I had picked up in previous gyms, but which were never pointed out to me.

I came to boxing late, so if your like me you don't want to waste your time in a gym where your only being held back. I agree that strength and conditioning are things you have to take care of by yourself, however if a coach isn't commenting on your technique and giving pointers it's a worry.

What sort of gym do you go to? Is it a community gym or a one where the coach is full time?
