Good post Stealer. Just wondered if in the book it mentions where DURAN loses $100,000 - literally! Story apparently goes like this: In 1989, just after he beat Iran Barkley, Roberto Duran fell into some money ($1.6Mil) via a tax refund of some sort. He and his wife, notorious for blowing millions in the past, quickly blew most of this lot as well. They then decided to take the $800,000 that remained back home to Panama with them. Story goes that they packaged the $800,000 into 8 x $100,000 lots, all in seperate carry bags. There were only 7 of team Duran travelling, so after each took a carry-on bag there was still one left that had to travel in the aircraft's main luggage compartment. Low and behold, when they reached Panama the 8th bag containing $100,000 had gone missing - fancy that! - and it's a true story according to the book 'Four Kings' by George Gimall.
Cheers for this, I want to check this book out. Ps. Duran is the king of excuse making .... but he`s still one of my favourites of all time. :good
It's got 2 be one of the best auto's ever written, it's truly a no-hold's barred job, Duran ai'nt happy about the book, but it's an incredible historical/sometimes hilarious insight 2 the man inside & outside the ring & a compulsory read 4 all the greenhorn/keyboard warrior's on ESB who think they know what it's/he's all about:yep read it & weep:smoke
