Boxing has to compete with very popular sports/entertainment vehicles like MMA and WWE that are full of unique characters. It is insane to think that we can compete by being squeaky clean. Hell they are trying to clean up the fights in hockey and it is turning off many fans of the sport. sounds like you and others on this board was happy for Boxing to die a slow death. I, for one, am happy that it is fighting for relevance and its very existence:deal

Boxing is not competing with WWE. That's just ridiculous. As I said, it's what matters IN the ring that attracts fans. Just as you stated with hockey, people like what happens in the rink. Because that's where bragging rights come to play for fans. Think anyone would give a **** is some hockey players fought in the lot? Maybe a few idiots would. But it's who wins when it counts that people care about. Not a press conference brawl involving too guys acting like idiots.

For people to even watch the said great exciting fight in the ring, there needs to be hype outside it

The thing is Chisora created excitement both outside and inside the ring, he really showed up to fight and surprised most of us with his determination. He pushed Vitali like noone else and that is why I would forgive him his crazy antics.

Compare that to Haye who was running his mouth but did not back it up in the ring and fought very defensively against Wlad.

It's really a risk these guys are taking, if they don't back up their **** in the ring they're going to look like complete clowns.

Not necessarily. A great performance would put you on the map quicker than any trash talk or brawl could do. People wanted to watch prime Tyson because he was destroying dudes, not because of what he said or did before the fight.

How many times did an overhyped fight deliver action in the ring?
