The reality is, improvements can always be made, especially in a defeat. There's nothing noble about turning your back on faults and not discussing personal opinions for a loss. On the flip side, no one likes a deluded whinger. There's a fine line there.
Wilders excuses for example were insane. Rjj excuse of cutting weight vs tarver was legit. Eventhough it did set him up for the most brutal pre fight line ever. People will still cling to legit excuses to discredit wins of fighters they dont like.
Is there truth to if you stand still with a 50 pound suit on your body for an hour is going to make your legs tired before a match? I'm not saying it's an intelligent thing to do but it might create a warning for the next half smart individual (I say that in a sarcastic fashion) thinking about doing something similar.
Excuses, of course. 99% of fighter's egos will not allow them to succumb to the idea it was merely a ..... "just lost to the better man"
Some excuses are valid it is only the Mayweather fan boys who constantly say no excuses because their man is only unbeaten due to a very questionable tactics. But him being undefeated makes them feel better about the shortcomings of all the current US fighters.
Is it that people see excuses as a reason why a fighter didn't get the win. I would have won if I didn't have a bad weight cut, I would have won if blah blah didn't happen. That's what fans don't like. I dont like hearing any excuses or reasons why. That should be kept within your team. Maybe it's promoters that push for an answer as to why there guy didn't win and they have to tell the media something.
Some excuses are genuine, like if you are made to come down in weight, then yeah you're probably drained, but if you are fighting at the weight you've always fought at and your not some young fighter who's still filling out then, I doubt you were drained and just lost to the better fighter. Remember when Taylor said he was drained after the Catterall fight and said he would move up, but then didn't tried to face a mandatory, then was supposed to rematch Catterall then didn't do that and then lost his title to Lopez 16 months after saying he was drained at the weight. Clearly it was BS, yeah he was big at the weight but he made the weight and would fight again at that weight. Now if Spence said he simply had a bad camp, that I could believe to some degree. It's known he doesn't live the life, he drinks and smokes weed apparently, so after a loss you will of course look at your camp and know you didn't do everything he could have. The fact it probably went like every other camp before, doesn't alter the fact he knows he could of done more, there's doubt in his mind because of that, so he can blame the camp on his performance.
I appreciate everything you're saying. Can a PPV fighter learn from the faults of carrying a 50 pound suit into the ring, take that knowledge and pass it on to the next PPV fighter?
I don't think RJJ weight cutting excuse was legit it all. Mainly because he WON the first fight after cutting the weight. He got knocked out in the second fight when he had even more time to readjust. If he won that first fight, why couldn't he do it again in the rematch? He got caught with a good punch and KOed. It happens. I'm not buying any excuses for a one shot KO loss as legit. Also, he didn't even have to lose that much weight. He weighed in at 193 lbs fully clothed with boots on for Ruiz. So he probably weighed somewhere in the high 180's. Getting to 173 would be pretty standard weight loss for a light-heavyweight fight. Now, some people like to say, but the weight was all muscle! Well, if he packed on 10-20lbs of pure muscle to jump up to heavyweight, that's really sus for a highly trained athlete to pack on that much muscle in a short time. He wasn't exactly in a newbie gains stage. That would have taken years to do that the honest way. Heck, that makes Ruiz have a more legit excuse for losing to Roy than it does Roy having an excuse for losing to Tarver.
Only excuse for me is if you’re old and past your prime 39 years old etc. Then again there’s old boxers that still got it.As for the drained you have 24 hours to replinish, rest and rehydrate. If you have had an accident in the past. But can still fight at a higher level.Well, you still abled body.Unless doc misdiagnosed the fighter has a license fighting with a crook eye that make them look high and drained as they age with high mileage in their body. As for RJJ no excuse for a glass mandible.Anything that lands flush shatters it. Spence excuse. It appeared to me that his jab was neutered.Crawford mentioned in interview that they had the key to counter Spence JAB.With a force be with you JAB of his own which a nuke coming back full force. The counter was right on the money. Spence always fought that way. It’s just Bud was exploding bombs everytime Spence tried to go inside the kill zone.
If one accepts a fight voluntarily of his/her own volition, then there should be no excuses regarding a particular outcome. That is not to say, however, there aren't innumerable factors that affect results.
The best post fight interview I have seen is Malignaggi after losing to Porter. No excuses, gave full props to Porter and wished him well for the future.
