A poster stated in another thread that, " just because the guys are bigger does not mean the division is better". Well I say to that, WRONG, that's exactly why heavyweight is the best division in boxing. Here are some "built-in excuses" that don't exist in the over 200lb division: 1. He came in overweight that's why he won/loss 2. He cut too much weight that's why he won/loss 3. Gloves are too big/small that's why he won/loss 4. He was too tall or too short that's why he won/loss 5. He only picks on guys from lower divisions 6. Time for him to move up These are some of the most over used terms and phrases for the boxing community and boxers to use that apply to every division but HW. Imagine Evander Holyfield whining about fighting Riddick Bowe and Nikolai Valuev because they were too big? This content is protected This content is protected You don't get to cry at HW and make excuses about anything other than an injury and no one will be sympathetic towards you anyway because you are over 6'3" like they do for guys who are 5'6". This in it's self makes HW the best division no matter who "The MAN" is at other weight classes. How many non HW guys can eat a punch from a nearly 7 foot 400lb man and keep going? I leave you with the 2016 Fight of the Year from the best division in all of combat sports! This content is protected
So you are telling me that if Joshua appear on 29th of April 300+ lbs , this will be fine and no one will complain about it? This could be a pretty good reason for a fighter in the heavyweights to loose. But I think everyone calls it - Out of shape. The freshest example is Samuel Peter vs Kubrat Pulev. Peter could've stayed more time on the ring if he wasnt 10000 lbs. Also Oldanier Solis has the same issue. ( Because Peter is not a good example - he is aging too ). Otherwise I agree with you , the fighters just need to face each other on a top level more often.
Absolutely, out of shape is out of shape but some guys are just big. Fury can still box with a pot belly if he wants he just better have a belly of steel. I'm waiting for the day that the gentleman in your thumb nail moseys on up to HW and we see him fight a 6'7" Wilder at 6'3" and nobody complain.
The thing about the weightclass is that some of the lighter guys have beaten opponents in a wider range as the difference between Strawweight and Cruiserweight. Of course you can't count it like that, but it shows what special kind of division it actually is. At the lower weights becoming a 4 weight champion only 13lbs apart kinda shows that we have to take some comparisons with a grain of salt
Apart from the top few fighters the heavyweight is poor to watch. Fat sluggish old men cuddling for 12 rounds!
I haven't pay too much attention to heavyweight since Lennox and Vitali retired. You need somebody like ggg to get people excited again.
Guy's like Golovkin are a rarety in boxing as a whole. You can't expect a Golovkin kinda fighter in the HW division soon.
