yeah thats what i was thinking. Dont see the connection. One is physical the other is more mental reactive..
the great man bruce lee once said the only way to punch faster is by punching faster and to get better at fighting you need to fight.
Theyre differant for sure. though obviously it needs to be said that they go hand in hand when it comes to a speedy boxer. unless you want to be like a calzaghe and throw ridiculous combos regardless of the consequence (jokes)
I also believe although it is mainly genetic you do build speed over time. Its not like you wake up one day and you notice a difference. But after the years of punching the muscle memory and your gradually improving technique will make you faster. Not by too much though. Like others said earlier mainly genetic.
You needed to drop the "and" and then start a new sentence. It got me too at first, it looks like you say "Shadowbox slowly focusing on speed" which makes no sense at all. Did you mean to say "Shadow box slowly focusing on technique. Speed and power should come naturally."? This is why you are getting the odd looks lol, just thought I would point it out for everyone's benefit. Also to contribute to the thread: The biggest detriment to speed is being tense. Learn to relax. Be playful if you have to. You tense on some punches but not before you throw them. Learn to throw the shots relaxed, with ease and speed, then learn when and what to tense to get the pop.
