Expect Haye to easily defeat Chagaev

Chagaev still seems a bit rusty, and I wouldn't mind if he got in one more fight between now and a possible mandatory fight against Haye. Chagaev, when he is on his game, is a better fighter than Haye. He did much better against a better version of Valuev than Haye did, and clearly beat a much younger Ruiz as well.

Chagaev, unfortunately, has suffered from both injury and illness, and that is further compounded by only having one fight in the last 11 months. He needs another fight to shake that rust off, and if he is anything like the fighter that beat Valuev he should be able to beat Haye.

Blade, I'm not even a Chagaev fan. Partly because he underwhelms with his skill-set, but still I disagree with you about his skill level. Of course, Haye's most famous wins at heavyweight are over...the same people as Chagaev's (save Chagaev having wins over better versions). And they did not impress me as far as skill. I look at Haye as an athletic guy with dynamite power and great speed but not as a particularly high ring IQ guy.

If his ring IQ is so good, why did he not know that if he upped his game a little more, he would have taken Meehan out of there? Also he seemed to use nothing but the left cross! And Meehan had more than his fair share of success! an old, slow limited Meehan. So don't give me that about Chagaev's ring IQ. Yes he's solid has techinical skills but he's not an outstanding fighter. So I think the Meehan fight is a good fight to gauge where Chagaev is at at this point in time. So I see nothing really to worry Haye. If Meehan can tag him, then so will Haye, and sure I don't rule out an early stoppage.

oh just to mention, Chagaev is not a big puncher, he probably has power that is on a par with Ruiz and Haye took Ruiz's shots. So as soon as Chagaev decdes to open up, he will get hammered.

Yeah...I completely disagree. Sorry. He shut Meehan out and he did it with relative ease and laziness and in a lesser state than he once was and overweight. Like I said, I'm not a fan. But again, I disagree with you. And I never said he was a big puncher. Just to mention.

If Fragomeni had been able to beat crap out of Haye then Chagaev could be even more competitive. Lets not delude ourselves, Haye had been down a few times in his career before. Never has fought such a tough and skilled guy like Chagaev. There is no basis to claim Haye would be a favorite in their fight.

This is actually a discussion how crappy the WBA ratings are.
After Ruiz lost his bout, Meehan was the #1 in the rankings... I mean seriously... You can't take those guys serious can you?! Now Chagaev (decent fighter) beat Meehan (of course) but he got totally schooled by Wlad. And now he's the #1 contender for the WBA title. What happens if he actually takes it, maybe even by lucky punch?
And why are we talking about the Chagaev fight, Haye has other opponents to worry about first.

Exactly. Chagaev clearly has a tendency to fight down to his opposition, and doesn't always keep himself in great shape, that is why it is hard to get behind him. That said, even a lazy and out-of-shape Chagaev schooled Meehan. If Chagaev would just get down to 220 or so and try he'd be a much tougher outing.

But he doesn't have that one punch, Haye does, and Haye will land it. So what I am saying is that Chagaev doesn't have great ring IQ, I mean you said it was superior to that of Haye's. Not sure how you reached that conclusion. He's a good boxer, knows the basics, does them well. That does not equate to having great ring IQ.

I clearly see different things about Ruslan than you do, that's all. I see his intelligence. He's not particularly athletically gifted but he's a crafty fighter with some power and a great chin. I don't see the same boxing brain in Haye. Never have I gotten the impression that he was that crafty.

I agree, Haye does have that one punch power. Yeah, he's got great power. There's no reason to believe at heavyweight that he has more power than Wladimir however and you saw how many flush bombs Wlad landed on Chagaev, I'm sure. It's not like you can count on one punch at a time with this guy. He's clearly got a rock solid chin. Like Ruiz. Except, I think Chagaev is much better than Ruiz. Similar chin, more skill, fresher, although still past his best at an early age for a heavy. I don't see Haye landing on him without getting the return fire with virtual impunity like he did with Ruiz. Chagaev's hand speed is better than Ruiz. Looks quite a bit better to me. Although, like I already said, I favor Haye slightly here.

That's something I don't get about Chag, Alca. He seemed legitimately excited and proud to get that Meehan win, even though he didn't even bother to show up at an athletic looking weight and did about the minimum to win the fight against a guy he was clearly far better than. It is hard to get behind him, I agree.

Haye should prove too fast for Chagaev,it will probably be much the same as Ruiz. Its not a fight people really want to see.

I got to think this one through a bit more. But a couple of years ago when I looked at possible comp for Haye this was a match-up I didn't think would go in his favour. These technically savy Euro fighters with compact punch and who know how to use distance and timing I aways thought would give him a problem. Ibragamov, Sasha and Adamek were the guys that I always though would give Haye a lot of problems and I remember being undecided about Chageav as well. Eitherway, would be a decent win.

Chagaev is a trash fighter. David Haye beats him up and gets a late stoppage.
