Chagaev was a different man when he was an amateur. He was incredibly driven, and won the World Amateur title twice, and defeated Felix Savon two out of three times. He went to the Olympics once at something like the age of 17. Chagaev might be burnt out on the sport, or maybe his years boxing in obscurity in America made him a bit jaded, but for whatever reason he rarely fights like the man who was one of the top heavyweight amateurs in history.
That depends how you rate it? Haye definitely have power to knock other HW down or hurt them pretty consistently (see Bonin, Barrett, Valuev, Ruiz) but he does not posses power to knock people out with single shot like Tua or Tyson. On the today's scene Haye's punching power is somehow exciting because there is no other active dominant and exiting puncher right now.
He most probably will, Chagaev has slow footspeed and no head-movement from what ive seen. A sitting target.
Haye fought Ruiz with practically no sparring in the build up , Haye @100 % KO's Chagaev early , Haye that fought Ruiz has his hands full :deal
No he doesn't, even at cruiser Haye only has 3 'real' KO's (be it all in R1) and only one against a good fighter, who had a glass jaw. And he certainly is no finisher anymore, I guess if the ref didn't stop it Ruiz would maybe even have gone the distance. So people who say he will finish Chagaev fast and easy should take a look at Haye's history first. He's no Bruno, Tua, Lewis or Tyson.
Does Haye have much experience fighting Southpaws? :think Decent fight but nothing to get excited over.
Agreed, He literally had to clobber the **** out of Monte Barret in what seemed like forever before it was finally over, and Barrett was a shot fighter, ( as was Ruiz. ) I think Haye's reputation as a destroyer is getting to be a bit overstated in some circles..
Good God , Haye at 100% has way way too much speed and agility for Chagaev , if it goes past 6 Chagaev if he isnt worn out by then may nick a few rounds off Haye down the strectch and make it look at least respectable on the cards but for me if Haye comes in fully fit injury free he takes Chagaev out !!!!!!!!!!!!! :deal
Well, I'm sticking money on Chag. For one he's a southpaw with good boxing skills, only loss is to Wlad and it was a late stoppage. So he wasn't blown out ( even though he lost pretty much every round ). He's going to cause Haye problems.
True. Haye hits hard, that cannot be doubted, but he isn't a one punch knockout artist, and he isn't a great finisher.
Even though it isn't the fight everyone wants to see a fight with Chagaev will still be better than a fight with Harrison. Chagaev is a good fighter. Can't hate on him for getting smashed on when he fought Wladimir. All of Wladimirs fights since he has won back his titles have gone that way. Haye will probably win a decision, but Chagaev will make it a tough fight.
Aside from the first KD which was a beauty Haye needed to pound on the back of Ruiz's head about 50 times to put him down again. Question is also why did Ruiz actually try and box and not fight his usual huggybear style. Reality Gayelords-Ruiz was 3-3 in his last 6 going into the Haye fight...and you are proud of that win
Even ardent Haye fans should probably avoid mentioning the Bonin and Barrett fights when they talk about Haye's heavyweight power. Barrett is clearly shot, as he was knocked out in 3 out of 4 fight surround the bout with Haye. Solis, for instance, ko'd Barrett far more convincingly just 8 months later. The Barrett bout tell me nothing about Haye's power. Even relatively light punchers like Chagaev or Povetkin would have ko'd Barrett pretty easily. The Ruiz fight. As I stated, Ruiz never had a good chin. Now, it's clear that Haye has power, but it not as impresive as many people go on about.
