Hey guys, Just wondering if anyone can share their own experiences. In particular, i'm wondering if anyone had lingering visual effects, like small flashes or glimmers of light out the side of their eye, particularly when your eye changes direction. I had one maybe three weeks ago, and had to pull out of my fight last weekend cuz of it. Was a little bummed, but overall I don't regret putting my health first. I had a really minor one, just from taking too many hard shots during a hard six round session. No dilated pupils, no confusion or memory lapse, no unconsciousness, no vomiting or nausea. Just a headache that lingered throughout the day and light-headedness for the next three days. Here's the stupid part - since I had no significant symptoms, I went back to sparring three days later - and 5 days later. That's when I realized the symptoms weren't going away and i began to see mild light flashes. Plus all shots felt pretty jarring, even the ones that were blocked. So I saw a doctor who confirmed it was very minor and would clear up within a week. So it's been 2 weeks since I last felt light-headed, and have felt 100% since then. I just have ever so mild light glimmers. Not a blinding flash, just kinda similar to catching a reflection off a metal bowl. It's gotten better. Now I only see it when it's dark. Did some sparring 1st time in 2 weeks today. My partner didn't throw a single head shot, but I felt like it wasn't a factor if he did. So if anyone had a similar experience with these light flashes - i'm more curious to know if it's more of an eye injury rather than a head injury - since it was 3 weeks ago, and was a relatively mild concussion. I know concussion symptoms can differ from situation to situation, but hey maybe we can just share our own.
Could be a lot of things. Retina damage if you get floaters, could just be an effect of the concussion, you might need to drink more water/less alcohol, smoke less weed, etc. I'd bring it up to the doctor again, but you def did the right thing by taking a few weeks off.
Thanks, if it lingers for another week, i'll see a doctor. Good thing is, it is getting much better. So i doubt it will even be around for another few days. Lifestyle's pretty clean now - 37 yr old dad. I drink very little and don't smoke or do drugs. I appreciate the feedback.
why would you be going sparring after a concussion?i had a hard one when stayed in hospital for 1 week and had amnesia.....it sucked(non boxing related though) just take a few weeks off.... my simptoms were retrogade amnesia,i didnt vomit but i felst sick as hell, but amnesia ****ed me up really good,i didnt know where i was,i didnt remember anything from that day or 4-5 days before, that was a really scary situation for me cause when i got to the hospital i was so afraid to go to sleep(10 hours froma concussion) cause i didnt know why i was there or where i was. i constantly kept asking the same question over and over again.
Went through exactly the same thing, Speech. Only I did not spar right away as I knew my body felt odd after a rough spar session. Took 2 weeks off gym and almost a month off sparring. The flashing in the corner of my eyes went away after 2-3 days. Headache left even sooner. What did last longer was a weird metallic taste. Like I'd been licking a battery.
Sounds scary. To answer the question, I actually didn't know I had a concussion. LIke I said, there were none of the bigger symptoms associated w/concussions. So yeah. I admit it was stupid to spar later in the week - but now I know, I don't have to have those symptoms per se, next time i'll know better...
Thanks for sharing that experience. Wierd how different it can be between people huh? I guess it shouldnt surprise me, it's your head after all, so sensations and visuals and stuff are going to be pretty varied.
Good thing nothing happened to you! Rehabilitation for me was ok,just i couldnt listen to loud music(thanks god there was no mp3 players here 10 years ago hahah) and couldnt go to loud disco clubs and **** like that for 3 weeks or so. i got a ct and a eye exam but nothing happened to me visual, everything was ok.
