Golota was before my time so I know basically nothing about him and I'm watching now the Legendary Nights episode about him and Bowe and they go over all this crazyness: Biting one guy (not even the ear, the goddamn neck) Quitting in the 10th against another Quitting in 2 against Tyson, I saw THAT fight, he didn't even get beat up bad Getting DQd for low blows 2x against Bowe And I'm probably forgetting something. So what's the deal with this guy? Why did he do these things?
I remember watching that first Bowe fight. When the animals were tearing MSG apart, you could hear George Forman telling some dummy "Don't do it, son" He was about to knock somebody the f*ck out:rofl Saved Lampley and Merchant's asses that night.
He was also injected with a strong painkiller right before his fight with Lewis due to a knee injury and 15 minutes after the fight he had a seizure and no pulse for 30 seconds. How he was allowed to enter the ring that night is beyond me.
yeah, the ole seizure excuse...:rofl golota was mentally unbalanced...it was well known dude had a lot of domestic problems too
I remember that. The drunken mob had made it's way down to ringside when some of them suddenly started hastily dispersing from around a certain area. Turns out this was where big George was standing, fists clenched, arms clocked, ready to throw hands, while Lampley and Merchant cowered behind him like a couple of toddlers hiding behind their mother
apparently against Tyson he broke his mandible like in the first or second round because he was keeping his mouth open. that gives you how ****ed up mentally golota was. He was re****ed. Even his corner didn't believe him and were trying to push him in the ring again, but it was true, it was really broken. Golota belonged in an asylum, but a lot of people wanted to milk moneys off of him
He never wanted to be a professional boxer, when he went to the US he wanted to become a truck driver. He was forced to become a pro boxer to make ends meet and you saw his lack of fortitude when under pressure, he simply didn't have the mentality of a fighter. The Tyson fight he had a concussion as well as 2 cracked vertebrae in his neck, Tyson had already done enough physical damage in those 2 rounds to force Golota to quit and that was a wise decision based upon his injuries. He suffered a broken jaw early on in the 2nd Bowe fight so he did show heart and desire in that fight but even when he was beating the **** out of Bowe, Bowe was still landing the odd hail mary shot and I think Golota just got frustrated that he couldn't finish Bowe, no matter how hard he beat him. The Grant fight is a weird one though, all he had to do was survive.
Tyson wrote in his biography that Golota quit because he had a car accident few days before this fight and went already into the ring with a concussion.
Similar smaller riot after Maskaev knocked Hasim Rahman out of the ring in their first fight... watch the whole broadcast... it's on youtube... Rahman came close to landing in Roids Jones lap!! :yep
That's the thing about Golota - everything is pretty much inexplicable. Bowe fights? Only semi-logical explanation is that he got frustrated with Bowe still standing after he landed everything he could. It was all out war and Andrew received some damage too. Lewis? This makes no sense and I tend to believe that he really received some kind of injection that made him go bananas. Grant? This is weird even for Golota. His explanation was that he was tired & that he was convinced that was down in the fight. So maybe his corner is partially to blame for that? Tyson is the easiest. Mike really broke his cheekbone and it was his decision to quit. Wise one, comparing to what happened to Mago for example... What Certo did is a whole different story... All in all - Golota was one of a kind.
