Explain how beating Pavlik would do more for Calzaghe than a win over Dawson

Yup, by my own admission as a Hatton fan, I would LOVE to watch operate on him.

Pavlic's last fight was at 166 catchweight, wasnt it?

So basically, Pavlic already is at 168. It wont take much for them to both meet at 168. theyre really already there.

If we're talking about the prime Calzaghe, yeah, I'd agree. He'd land so frequently, so fast, and very hard. Pavlik couldn't deal with it. I see this one lasting around 9, since Calzaghe's power has decreased a ridiculous amount.

Calzaghe beating Hopkins somehow boosted Pavlik on here.

I agree with everyting except for the part in red. The fact that Pavlik looked worse in his 2nd fight against JT had less to do with the increase in weight (He came in 164 when the limit was 166) than it had to do with JT's improved boxing skills. JT is a very talented athlete. He finally used his talents the right way in the 2nd Pavlik fight and that is something most fans simply did not expect. Heck, 99% of people predicted a KO by either fighter but a UD was the last thing anyone expected.

Not really improved boxing skills. It was the same old Taylor, but he just made adjustements to his strategy for the 2nd fights. Very very small changes in the way one fights can completely make a bout a completely whole different fight.

Well, it's all subjective interpretation. I tend to think we saw a much more improved JT. He looked really, really good. If that JT shows up at the SMW division, he could clean that division out. It's not a coincidence that JT gave Hopkins serious problems. And part of that had to do with his natural hand speed, size, and power.

Yea its true, I like Taylor because he fights with a lot of heart and passion. He fights like hes the challenger or the underdog every time he is in the ring.

dawson is overated, he has a good heart and chin, but is a b class fighter. Joe vs Chad right now is worthless for Joe, he would humiliate chad for no purpose. If joe were to keep busy and let kelly get some defenseces and then take a fight under the presumtion they both keep winning, then a joe pavlick fight is way more worthy. dawson needs to step up first, you cant say that after a fake ass win against johnson that he deserves a fight against joe. I'd rather see dawson fight chris byrd and make a statement before I saw him fight calzghe. this is a far fetched comparison, pavlick calzgaghe is a way better fight.

I agree, people actually discredit Pavlik for not knocking out JT. JT looked great in this fight and if it wasnt someone named Pavlik agaisnt him Jermain would have beat anyone that night. Even he admitted that he trained his ass off, and honestly there is no reason not to believe him, he afterall was the man at MW, and one can dispute that, he beat the man who was the man, and that is no small feat.

Pavlik didnt look his best but he was up against game and worthy competition in JT, and still won a convincing UD.

Pavlik wont fight Calzaghe, cause Calzaghe will stay at LHW, and honestly Joe has a better chance against the slower LHW's than against some that can actually out-work him in Pavlik.

To the thread premise. It's about the 'ohs....'. Nothing more, nothing less.

i think Dawson style gives Joe more problems than Pavlik. I do think howveer that he beats them both anyway.

The reason Pavlik is more in the frame than Dason is because the fight is easier to make (HBO), Kelly has fans, has an exciting style and is a linear champ himself. Dawson who is coming off an un impressive perforormance, fights under Showtime banner, and i dop not beleeive his promoters will allow another young gun to be beaten by Joe.

Chad Dawson although an effective counter puncher, doesnt bring to the table what an exciting puncher like Kelly Pavlik brings.

But i will reiterate; Calzaghe has a harder night with Chad than he would with Kelly - in fact think Joe would chew Kelly up and spit him out. It would be a fan freindly fight though, where Dawson may not be.

Howevr if Calzaghe doesnt retire, and Dawson and Tarver fight eacher other, I think the winner of that fight will be hard to ignore.

i really think the only reason people would want pavlik in because he'd bring more on the table, he is more popular than dawson and is already a top 10 p4p entrant.

But in terms of competition, dawson would be the man. It'll silence the doubters more than a pavlik win.
