Can someone explain this? He had one fight at CW last year and before that, he was fighting at LHW. How did this guy along with Dominguez get a shot at the vacant IBO belt?

Was it simply another case of boxing politics and the organization simply picking and choosing who would fight for the belt or some other reason behind it?

Something like his IBO points from LHW comes with him when he goes up in weight. So you can probably use your points in other classes

Even with his move up in weight, he brought enough points with him from LHW to be ranked #6 at cruiser, clearly making him eligible to fight for the title. See the Top 100 computerized rankings at www.iboboxing.com

Not really David Haye was a proper champion at CW and had already destroyed two top 15 HW before getting his shot at Valuev.

Cuz its boxing politics and in this sport the governing bodies do what they want including making new belts up

    Thanks.

It still makes no sense how he's able to take his LHW points up to CW. It's a new weight division and one would think that you would have to start all over again and start earning your way to a title. But i guess it's just another reason why boxing is a joke in the way it's set up. Someone who has only had one fight at CW is able to fight for a belt and at a weight just above LHW against another LHW to make matters worse.

    Pretty pathetic.

The number does not matter. He was WBC, WBO, WBA, Lineal and Ring champ at CW and stepping up to fight another champ in a higher weight division like we have seen in the past e.g. Maywether stepping up to fight Castillo.

It is not that uncommon in boxing for a champ from one division to step straight in a title fight with another champ in another weight class. What's the big deal?

People need to realise the IBO are not some moral benchmark and are simply another parasitic alphabet organisation who want to leach money from the sport. It needs to be ignored.

Well, it's not a new thing for someone at a lower weight division to jump up a division and get a crack at a title.

The good thing about the IBO is you can see how this is worked out. Usually other organisations just seem to make it up as they go along (Like Haye becoming no4 ranked Heavy with the WBA... a number they just pulled clear out of their arses to make the Valuev fight seem more legit).

But I'm surprised that Green had enough points for anything. It's not like he has been setting the world on fire at 175. But on the other hand it is only the IBO and there probably aren't a lot of other fighters giving it any credit right now. So it is easy enough to get points.

People are making out like Green is suddenly a great cruiser. Sorry, I am a fan of Green's but I just don't see it.
It's great that he is getting some more paydays, but his career as a real contender is over.
